Has anyone converted there 2.7 prerunner into a 4wd??? Im not sure if it can be done? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Parts list and labor it would involve.

    Thanks

Its says on Toyota parts department that the 2.7 liter transfer case bolts to the v6 as well. So from a parts stand point what would i need for a auctomatic 2012 prerunner?

    You would need a 4x4 trans from a 4cyl.
A transfer case from an FJ (might have to change the input shaft, not sure. RST would know), or a tacoma transfer case and ecu etc.
    A front dif.
A wiring solution for the ADD.
    Drive shafts
    CV's
    4x4 hubs

The v6 auto trans likely has a different bell housing as stated above. I believe the transfer cases have different input shafts between v6 and 4cyl.

I dont have a definitive answer, I have not actually done this myself. If I was, I would use an FJ manual shift case. The input shaft can be changed if needed. There are other people who have done this and there is information available. Do more research. If you are truly interested, call RST, they are a wealth of knowledge. They have electronic solutions for the swap and may even be able to sell you parts that will work.

This is mostly correct. You need an A340f transmission or you need to swap the output shaft on your transmission to the 4x4 shaft. This is the route I went. I got the shaft (and the speed sensor rotor) and had a local transmission shop swap the parts. It cost me $150 for the shaft, $40 for the rotor and $200 for labor (I pulled the transmission to save on labor). My transmission was very low mileage and this way was cheaper for me. You also need the 4x4 tailhousing if you go this route.

I would advice going with an FJ T-case. It bolts right up. This avoids a lot of wiring.

Almost everything just bolts ups. You will need to modify the crossmember that supports the transmission. That involves unbolting it, cutting out the center and rewelding it.

Ah. The 2nd gen 2.7 uses the same A340 as the 1st gen 3.4

Yea. The 4-banger is slooooowwwww. But it’s a reliable engine paired with a solid transmission. Should run for a long time. That’s pretty much why I converted mine to 4x4. I figured I wasn’t ever getting rid of it, so resale valve wasn’t a concern. Also they offer the 4 cylinder Access Cab in 4x4 (and with a 5 speed manual) but not in the 4 cylinder DCSB. I looking to manual swap mine soon as well. I think it might end up as the only DCSB 2.7 4x4 manual. Needs a supercharger too cause god it is slow with 33’s (even with 4.88’s).

Yup. When that transmission lives behind a 2JZ, some of them boost to 900+ HP, it's good enough for a 4-banger Tacoma forever.
