The front end is officially done. I got the front driveshaft back today from being shortened/rebuilt with new joints and zerks and threw it in. Over the weekend, I got the new 1 5/16" GM master cylinder installed and bled (old MC was a 1 1/8" GM) and so far, without driving it, the pedal feels just like it should. I'll be able to putt this thing around the neighborhood now in front wheel drive to see how the brakes really feel. Also got the wheels painted and ready for tires.

I kept an eye out for some decent used aluminum ones, but I've yet to really see them as a necessity. I've had my old setup down to 8psi or so and never dropped a bead, so I figured I'd still be good. If I come around a used set though, I'll buy em

Damn that's a wide stance. Looks like the rear is going to take a lot of trimming and possibly reengineering your wheel wells. The front will hopefully be just some sheet metal.

    Thanks Lee.

The rear triming was the easy part. I just had to take some off the rear portion of the wheel well bedside. I did the same on the front as well but also hammered in the pinch weld a little bit. I never had to clearance the front with the 35s

Trimmed the fenders a little bit until I can flex it out and got the new washer reservoir installed.

Starting to put together the stuff to do a gm alternator upgrade.... Bought a "big 3" kit, Toyota to gm alternator adapter plug, and going to order the 140 amp alternator sometime soon.

We are live (3.73 and open diff in the rear still but it's streetable)! Feels good to drive it again. The speedometer is off about 30 mph at 60 and 5th gear is unusable but other than that, it drives just as it did before. The tires are quiet and round, and ride good for not being balanced. The brakes on this thing are amazing, honestly comparable to my stock f150..... This truck finally stops like it should.

Could always drop it in to 2Lo1 and it will probably drive about the same as when you gear it down.

BTW, this seems like a good place to ask this given the number of knowledgeable folks that follow this thread. Does anyone know if the non-electric brake booster and master cylinder from a Tundra is any bigger than the Tacoma booster and master cylinder?

Edit: all you need is a Nissan and a Heep and you'd have all the brands covered in your yard, lol.

From our findings the 1st gen tacoma and 3rd gen t4r booster are a dual diaphragm. Same as the tundra booster. He is running a master with a huge bore which I am going to be running also from a Chevy one ton. Stops great when I rode with him around the block

I'll have my dad's jeep here next week for ball joints :D

You should have a dual diaphragm booster already, and you can upgrade the master to a larger bore with no issues really as long as the mounting pattern is the same (2 bolts or 4). But, you'll have to do some math to figure out what size will work best which leads to my question of why would you want to upgrade if you still have factory brakes? The caliper piston surface area directly affects master size and there isn't much room for error when it comes to swapping Masters and experiencing a hard as a rock pedal, or one that goes to the floor and doesn't really work.

I'm going to much bigger tires. I'd like to have a little more braking pressure on tap to stop them. I'd do the Tundra brake mod, but I don't want to have to change my wheel size. I was thinking that the Tundra (and the pre-face lift 2nd Gen Taco, for that matter) had bigger brakes, they might have a bigger MC and booster with would give me a little more pressure at the calipers/wheel cylinders. At least that's what I was thinking.

You're not going to gain anything IMO. like I said, you're either going to make your pedal hard as a rock that takes a lot more effort to press down, or the pedal is going to be complete mush and just drop to the floor with little effort.

Here is some reading regarding the subject. This deals with brakes after an SAS but it has some numbers for IFS setups as well for comparison.

Honestly if you want better brakes get different wheels and get Tundra brakes, then swap out the brake booster for an 01-04 Tacoma booster and it'll be a huge upgrade. The 95.5-00 boosters make the petal a bit more mush than stock but you get used to it. I'm going to eventually swap the boosters over

The booster might be just what I need. I don't think I'm going to need much, just a little more pressure. Plus, my booster is over 20 years old. A new one for an 01-04 might get me where I want to be, but then again, since I don't have ABS, it might not be the way to go. Maybe I'll see if I can get one out of the salvage yard and see what happens. I really should do the manual proportioning valve as well, but...I'm a cheap, lazy ass. :anonymous: The cheap part is also why I'm not going to go with 16" wheels.

    Thanks for the input though.
