IPod jacked in- no volume

Okay, I don't know much about the IPod, but this is making me think it's useless.
On both my motorcycle (with a factory IPod adapter) and on my Taco (with a Best Buy direct-to-antenna input), there are some tunes that need the head unit volume maxed out just to hear clearly. I have the volume on the IPod maxed, but it just doesn't seem as though the signal is getting to the head unit well. That being said, even the tunes that do come through with decent volume sound a little off-- like the speakers are in a box. When I use headphones/IPod, they all come through fine.
Am I doing something wrong in my burning, or missing a setting on the IPod, or what?

Can't afford a new HU with a USB input... so don't go there.

 

I think iPods have some equalizer settings...Not sure tho. And a some a setting with "equal volume playback"

 

It is most likely your actual AUX cable. I would invest in a new one of those.

 

FM Transmitters never work as well as ones that plug directly in, so you are going to loose quite a bit of quality and volume there. Chances are, switching the equalizer as well as turning on "Sound Check" will both help. They can be found in the iPod settings.

 

I bought an amp (built inside an altoids tin) on ebay for just that purpose, plug your iPod into it, then plug the amp into the aux input, there is another volume knob on the amp, then you can hear it a whole lot better. Google "cMOY amp" for more info, I got mine from this guy:

Yep... did all that previous to posting. Sound check, EQ peaking... no help. Aparently the loss is in the way I'm connecting through the antenna. Considering the stereo in the Taco is pretty lame to begin with I guess I'll just take earbuds.Thanks for the input, all.

 

Yeah, I have the same problems, Im really thinking about getting one of the amps.

 

Just got my 2010 Taco with 6 CD system, and had same volume problem with 3.5 mm male-male cable into the aux input. Had to turn Ipod volume to max and radio volume to 50s just to hear while driving.

Then saw this fix on this forum (sorry, can't remember which thread exactly so apologies for not being able to credit OP):

Go to Itunes --> music library --> select all songs --> right click --> select "get info" --> "options" tab --> turn "volume adjustment" to 100% --> sync.

Now I can run Ipod volume @ ~75% and stock headunit volume in low 30s for music. No distortion, either.

 

Fm modulators absolutely suck. Get a direct plug-in adapter (one that plugs into your CD port on the stock head unit).

thickshaft, thanks for that tip, i'm still learning about itunes, that sounds a lot better than buying an amp. i haven't sync'ed it yet, will be interesting to see how this works.

Well, THAT didn't work- now it sounds like I have the earbuds pulled out. I'll try it again.

 

if your using the FM transmitter it wont get much better. those things are total crap. its like a tiny little radio station sending a signal to your antenna from your ipod. I had one for about a week before i set it on fire.

best bet is to get a aftermarket cd player that has an IPOD input. even some of the el' cheapo headunits have ipod inputs on them now

 

don't drive with earbuds in.

it's illegal in a lot of states and you look like a tool


i know you said you don't have a ton of extra cash, but you can pick up a nice used hu on ebay for 100 bucks.

 

Okay, I give up. Maybe it's the fact that I don't have the aux input... but it pisses me off that I paid Best Buy $150 for something that fails this bad...

 

Try this, look at post 2 on the link.
It may work for the ipod volume too. I don't know if will work on AUX but try it on that and SAT and see what happens.
Worth a try.

I have this problem too but it seems to have gotten worse over the course of 6 months.
It's not the cable as I have tried other input sources (another ipod, laptop) so it must be the ipod itself.

I'm trying the method mentioned above so I will chime in soon...

dig the altoid amp though. that's kind of cool...

 

do the 2nd gen's require an expensive wire harness adapter for new HU's? My old truck needed a $120 wire harness to keep everything running since everything ran through the factory radio.

 

so the itunes trick didn't work...trying the other fix now...
