Nice!!! That’s an inexpensive way to go! $70 and you’re done. I like it.

here's my unedited video... with my kids and wife chatting about breakfast and me trying to hide the butt crack! planning to put an edited video on YT soon but for now you guys can see the raw footage LOL. it took about a minute longer than usually because my guy lines were a little tangled and the floor was super hard. In better ground conditions and not-tangled lines it's about 3 mins

I have the same thing but bought unfinished sun shade material (by the yard) at my local home supply store. Amazon has finished sun shades for $20-30 in various sizes too. I'm adding a nylon buckle to one corner so that it'll clip into the ST roll up points and have full coverage on one side of the truck.

nice! i was thinking about exactly that. Full width of the truck would be great. I actually have some extra buckles i got for the softopper from REI that I'm gonna add to one corner of a bigger awning. it will be a little shorter on one side but who cares

I found that the ST buckles are a wierd size, but even one that close enough in size will work with a little time and a Dremel.

My only concern is putting too much lateral tension on the aluminum ST frame that may cause a permanent distortion. Worst case scenario, I can make a small hoop that goes over the ST at the rear (think: exo-cage/bedbar). I don't have an immediate use for a full over-the-ST bedrack, but I could make one of those as well if the single hoop looks out of place.

    EDIT - Gone!

Anyone need these? 3rd gen rear window clips. Free. Perfect shape (the zip ties were to hold the straps tight). Claim them on here and send me a PM with name and address.

I made reference to this a few pages back but didn't add pics. Here is my way of rolling up the sides and keeping the roll tight and even, as well as making it easy to do one handed.

Take two 3/4 inch diameter pieces of PVC, about 5 1/2 feet long give or take. Install snaps on each end in line with the front snap and the next to last snap on the Softopper. Then when it's time to roll up the sides, snap the pipe on and roll it up in the middle. The snaps on each end keep the roll tight and even. The only thing that isn't perfect is the baggy excess of the rear end, I just fold it under when done and cinch the QD buckle on the end tight over top.

    Cost is like $3...

Mark the sides and which way is front

Roll it up holding the middle, can do it one handed if you like

Finished. You can make it tighter and higher if you want to

This is my project this weekend.

Question for all you guys. Any ideas how to make a "gasket" in between the third brake light and the topper to prevent water from leaking into the topper? Or any ideas from getting leaks? I have some ideas, but wanted to hear suggestions. Thanks!!

This is the light I'll be using.

All you’ll be making is two tiny holes. IMO the amount of water that will possibly enter will be negligible and not a big deal. The topper will leak more in other places.

But if you really wanna seal it, just put a dab of silicone on the back.
