    My shit is all stock.
    I opened up the conversation with him originally in regards to our TRD blowers and opened up exhaust/intake. That’s the setup most of us have. So, that’s probably what he’s thinking. If your setup is much different from that, then, he needs to know. Turbos, n/a, etc...

    Agreed. Without a turbo, larger twin screw blower, or centrifical blower, 600 is a good target cam.

    I liked that as well.

    Finally did the cam swapping necessary yesterday, to verify if my specific grinds could use the VVT-I actuators without being locked out. Come to find out that they could use them. With full advance!

    Anyway. It is a much easier job to do if you have a spare set of hands. The driver side intake cam is trickier to remove than the passenger. All of the bearing caps have to be off, with the chain slack on that cam(obviously), and a lot of careful wiggling around to get it out.

    I could not do what I am about to recommend, since my locked gears were pressed onto the cam.

    Set timing. Loosen intake cam gear bolt, until it can be spun by fingers. Remove the bearing caps. Have tie-off string tied around the chain to keep tension while cam is removed, and prevent it from falling into engine. Lift cam and unthread cam actuator bolt. Holding actuator, cam can slide of actuator while bolt is unthread. Install new cam while making sure alignment pin is in proper orientation. ( If bolt is fully removed, you can look through the alignment hole. In photo below. )

    Keeping the actuators in the chain make it harder to misalign the timing.

    Bungee cord is a great tool for keeping tension on the chains. The other end attached to the hood. Won’t work great for guys with the redline gas hood struts, but that can be overcome by reinstalling the stock hood prop temporarily.
