    Honestly not as hard as you would think. I had no idea what I was doing when I decided to start it. Its far from perfect but not too shabby so far. I just hope it will float.

    I don't use pre-made plans, but I'm sure you can find an instructable on google somewhere. Chairs are some of the most difficult pieces of furniture to build, rocking chairs are even more difficult. Of course it also depends heavily on the design of the chair. The only rocking chair I ever tried to build failed on me. It was a fairly ambitious design though, and the first time I ever did any steam bending and laminate bending; odds were stacked against me I guess. Good luck in your build and post pics when you're done!

    That seems like an extremely big goal for a first major project. I’ve done some benches and cabinets but not sure I’m bold enough for a rocking chair.

    It can be. If you make one in the Morris or Arts and Craft. it wouldn't be too bad as it's all 90° angles for the most part. When you get into the Windsor style (like the Patriot) then there are sight, rake and splay lines that need to be considered.

    Very true... maybe it’s just me but Windsor is really the only kind I’d take the time to have a go at. I mean technically you could cut some half moons and attach it to a lawn chair and call it a rocking chair. lol

    You mean like this? Wife wanted a squirrel feeder. Went out to the shop and 20 min later asked if this was ok because we weren’t paying $40 for one lol.

    Only thing I feed squirrels is lead (or steel shot depending I guess).

    I recall seeing something I found remarkably true: Most woodworking is just variations on making a box. So learn to make a good box.
