Advice sought on purchasing a 2019 vs 2020 Offroad...

The only issue with waiting, of course, is I may have to make compromises if I ultimately go with a '19. This is particularly relevant because there are just not many manual trannies out there...

 

I don’t know what the outputs are but: My wife an daughter both have Rav4’s and I can tell you both seem way brighter than my brand new Taco’s headlights.

 

I dunno, I'm inclined to believe the IIHS when they gave the Rav4 headlights a rating of "Poor".

 

Again, I’m just going by my experience. I drive my wife’s car or my daughters and the road is lit up like Christmas. I get in my truck and feel like I need a cane and a German Shepherd to get where I’m going.

 

Give it a few years until the 4th gen in 2023.

 

I think you should wait for the 2020s because it sounds like you're going to own this truck for a long time. And they'll be nicer.

Major caveat: Manual is a must-have for you, and those are a pain in the ass to locate, and you found a nice 2019 (cement, manual! Not quite a unicorn, but rare enough). So you might have to wait extra long to get a '20 MT.

I still think it's worth it, but I already got my truck, so take this with a grain of salt.

i was sort of kicking myself for hurrying into a 2019 off road DCSB, i just got it 4 months ago and after i saw the 2020 realized that the hype is going to be so crazy around the refresh that the 2019s will be much easier to make a deal on later if i had waited

 

You mentioned that you were looking forward to the 2020 passenger door touch unlock, but remember that the MT does not have that. No push button start and no touch lock/unlock on any side with an MT. Unless they change that for the 2020 which seems doubtful.

Also, it may vary based on your region, but building a 2019 OR DCSB 6MT with Premium+Tech packages on Toyota's website is pretty much MSRP on it at $38k. When I put those in I'm pretty much at that price in the midwest. So unless that is the out-the-door (including TTL) cost or prices are significantly different wherever you are, that really doesn't seem like a deal at all! You should be able to get a couple thousand if not more off, especially since we are only a couple months away from the 2020s coming out.

 

A good deal on a Tacoma TRD model is about around $5k off MSRP. Will they be dealing on 2020 models when the come out? I doubt it, you will probably have to wait until the 2019’s are gone.

 

I personally don’t know anything about either year model. That being said, I only gave $35400 for my 2018 TRD OR last June. I now have leather and the upgraded grille, for much less than $38000

 

Ah, didn't realize that (thanks!). So it boils down to power driver's side seat, CarPlay, cosmetic changes/LED's, and cameras...

 

I’m impatient, and if the exact truck I wanted was sitting there ready to go I’d go for it. BUT I’m biased because if anything I prefer the manual adjust seat, CarPlay would be nice but doesn’t matter much to me, and the added camera’s are cool but not something I need. If you’re enthusiastic about the upgrades than wait, but if like me you really don’t care much then go get your truck!

To me, these upgrades are just other components that will fail in time. Although 360 cameras are helpful, how necessary are they to you? I just purchased my 2019 and it’s an amazing truck compared to my 07. If you found the truck that fulfills your expectations, why wait? New tech is nice... only until it stops working.

 

Don't know anything about the manual option deficiencies (don't come in LB so was out for me).

But I thought long and hard about waiting 6 months myself and paying the extra 3k or so for the 2020's.

I decided to get a '19 and do the anytime front camera mod (like $50).

You can also do the passenger touch unlock (think $100ish), add seat spacers ($5), carplay ($600), and deal with not having led headlights.

 

Put me in the other 10%. Doubtful on 90% number when confronted with the difference in the cash outlay.

 

Just got a quote for 34k$ on a DCSB OR with auto trans (more expensive) so if you’re going MT even better deal to be had. This was without tech or premium BUT in Cali where our market is known for being a bit pricey. I’d say shop around more. But I’d wait until 2020.

 

I’m same height as you, did the spacers raise the seat a lot or just change the angle? Been thinking about getting some.

 

If you go with the front and rear seat risers, it will raise the seat height without changing the angle.

Ok just want to raise the back a little to fix the seat angle. Don't really want the seat any higher. Thanks!
