You disagreed that Masvidals knee ko in 5 seconds was a freak thing? I'm just saying it's a freak thing because if all it took was a flying knee to beat Askren or any heavy wrestling fighter he/they would have already lost before by the same way. Everyone knows a flying knee is a defense for a double leg takedown. How many flying knee KOs with a takedown attempt have you seen though? Out of thousands of fights I've watched I can only think of maybe 3. Mvp vs Santos, Masvidal vs Askren and Pico vs Borics. Cheal, Khabib, or Colby fight nearly the same way as Askren.

If Masvidal missed that knee by a couple inches askren would have had his way the rest of the round.

I do hope Dustin hits khabib and Lawler hits Colby with a flying knee though.

Regarding Dustin, I really hope he gets the W. I like khabib but I’ve been a diamond fan for awhile now and I just think it’s his time to be champ.

the first round is going to speak volumes about the outcome of the fight. dustin is a blackbelt himself who im sure is working takedown defense and recovery like his camp depends on it but everybody trains for that and after, say khabib seems super human in his ability to overwhelm and create pressure. hes just zaps your energy. which is the worse way to lose a fight.

but dustins got those hands on him. if he can weather the storm that khabib (without fail) is going to bring to the table. we'll have a fight on hands.

    I mean fuck man.
Khabib stood with Conor and knocked him down with that OHR. Granted it was after he drained his energy a bit but part of what makes khabibs stand up is the fear of the take down. Everyone is so cautious of the level change that the right hand over the top lands much easier.

Anything with khabib is exciting. Undefeated with that ground game. It’s always enticing to put a striker in there and start throwing around “what if’s”.

I think they need to stop with the BS at 155 and just give us what we really want...

    Khabib vs Furguson.

    It’s “THE” lightweight fight.
Dana painted himself into a corner with the interim fight with max. So we gotta see how this khabib Dustin goes down in September then go from there. But tony shouldn’t have to fight anyone unless it’s for the strap. That dude has been robbed time and time again. He’s got nothing left to prove

I think Askren V Colby is a really good match up as well. Really liked Askren's response to the KO when he talked to Helwani.

It really looked like Jones was not interested. Once Santos was injured, a double-leg would have been the easy take down and Jones could have ended it on the ground.

Anyone hear what Tony Longo said about it? He believes that all of the PED's are fully out of Jones' system (even those minuscule picograms) and Jones lost his aggressive attack. Thoughts?

He could have continued to talk trash (saying that Masvidal got lucky) or not even talked about it at all.

Simple. I think that Askren beats Masvidal nine times out of ten, so that (what happened Saturday) doesn't happen...not saying Masvidal got lucky, but that was pretty rare for it to happen like that and that quickly. Askren could have gone that route and not given Masvidal any credit at all (he did say that it was a perfectly executed flying knee). As funny as he is, Askren comes off as a bit arrogant, most arrogant fighters, even in a devastating loss like that, flip the narrative. Heck, I don't even remember Jose Aldo commenting on his quick KO loss to McGregor at all.

I get it though, Askren needs to stay in the eye of the MMA media, and you don't do that by NOT saying anything at all...just thought he handled himself well after the loss, that's all. Maybe 'trash talk' wasn't the correct phrase, but he certainly didn't blatantly disregard the loss as if it never happened.

Nope, I don't think it was luck when Connor KO'd Jose. It was a well timed, well placed shot, not luck...but it (like the Masvidal KO of Askren) doesn't really give us enough to analyze anything. Not many fighters, in that weight class, are on Masvidal's level...anxious to see if he gets the shot at Usman.

Unlike Connor's KO of Jose, if Masvidal had missed that knee things could have turned out a bit different for him. But, unfortunately for Askren, Masvidal didn't miss..which somewhat brings me back to my first comment. I, for one, did not expect the somewhat complimentary comments from Askren towards Masvidal about the fight. He did say that Masvidal landed a picture perfect flying knee.

Lol you guys on arguing wrestler vs striker, literally wrestler wins 9/10 times but that's why its always interesting to see the fight bc of the punchers chance! Khabib will roll dustin despite khabib being the most boring champion ever. I know masvidal trained that knee bc that's a defense for wrestlers, they will be cautious to shoot if they took a flying knee early on, obviously not that early ha but it helps them slow the takedowns and make them stay standing and for a striker that gives them more advantage. If you think ben askren isn't UFC caliber then you didn't watch his past fights, IF you say hes one dimension and that's not successful then you don't know who khabib is. I think ben def has had a very interesting debut to the UFC though. Lets all just take a moment and appreciate Santos doing 5 rounds with a torn ACL, MCL, PCL, and meniscus tear.

doesn't matter the wrestler/grappler still wins. Hard to throw a punch when your pinned to the ground or being choked to death. But yes you have one shot when they come to get ahold of you to take you down.

don't see the difference between his skill set and khbib both being one dimensional fighters and one being at the top and both having long undefeated careers. Plus lawler drove a mac truck through his face and he still had grit to compete. I think what happened with masvidal was a freak moment not that it wasn't practiced and planned but I doubt it changes bens path to winning a fair amount unless hes now made of glass. Khabib has proven if your durable and can wrestle you can be king.

hes 1-1. The only respectable fights that are basically still undefeated is khabib, ferguson, jones and they all fight different styles and are at the top of their divisions.

Even on that note, his debut was to Lawler for gods sake which I agree was maybe an early stoppage but he also came back from the head slam/partial KO and got robby to sleep a little. They just gave lawler to Covington who awkwardly held a interim belt and hasn't fought in like 1.5 years and is some how in the top 5 of the division so you know lawler is no joke and neither is masvidal. I think askren will do well when bounces back from the KO, I think he will be humbled but it also may fuel his fire to dominate like khabib does with his wrestling because it works.
