Just took mine on a 5400 mile road trip with the bed loaded with camping gear and a bike rack with 3 bikes. Truck did great didn't have any issues even those times that I decided to go 80 or 85 (even using cruise control). Like others have said start with alignment and go from there.

 

Granted, my truck only has around 6800 miles at this point, but ~4000 of those are highway. Plain and simple, it’ll do OK with the cruise set at 70-75, but any faster and the transmission doesn’t want to stay in 6th with a slight head wind. Feels like it should be be able to comfortably cruise at 85, and probably could if the transmission knew how to shift. Makes me wish I’d gotten the MT.

Tires and alignment.

If you have shit tires with flimsy sidewalls you'll feel it.

If you have too little caster the truck may feel like it steers too easily. Might need aligned.

My truck is lifted, has no sway bar, lots of extra weight, and 33" Load E tires. 80-85mph it feels planted... though the mileage sucks. LoL

 

Agree with this. What kind of tires did you put on it?

 

I'm running Falken AT3W now.

Have had Cooper ST Maxx and Michelin Defenders.

That said the Dunlops Toyota put on the truck were garbage.

 

No place within 1500 miles of here where I can legally go over 70. Most cops won't bother you if you keep it to 75. But 81 will get you a ticket, 85 means you go straight to jail and don't pass go. Super speeder law with serous fines and jail time.

I've been in western states where 75-80 was legal. My Tacoma would do it, but wasn't happy about it. Part of that was the 6000' above sea level and limited O2 in the air too. Butat 70-75 mine rides great. Fuel mileage will still be pretty good at 70 but at 75 the difference in fuel mileage just ain't worth getting where I'm going 10 minutes sooner.

 

Not the same experience here. 80% hwy weekly. Replaced rears with 5100s, left front stock cuz I like the stiff feel in the front. Even swapped out to OR rims and GY adventurer tire. More sidewall than sport rims. At 75 mph, I've never felt loosely goosey in handling, it's a pretty tight setup actually. Bad road crowns however...its rare

Yeah, engine swaps are common, but I have not see anyone mess with the 4wd and axles?

I’ve got the Falken Wildpeaks AT whatever with less than 1k on them.

 

I feel like I know what you're talking about OP, I think its just the way the truck handles, my second gen felt like that somewhat too. Get alignment and stuff checked just in case

 

I usually drive long distances on the weekends around 75, sometimes 95 to get around the retards and never felt anything of concern.

What I do find is that the brakes suck compared to the %99.9 of mfg's that use all disc brakes tied with the miss-geared transmission and lack of power seat....but I love the looks of the taco.

If you don't off-road or crush pot holes I don't see why you'd need an alignment at 30k. The tire size change is negligible.

 

SHOCKS???

30K seems early, but if they are anything but the OR Bilsteins, they might be due for replacement. Worn shocks will certainly cause all sorts of handling issues.

My '19 feels quite planted at speeds well beyond where you're having problems.

 

Better than most just luffing and in irons most of the time!

 

i drove this weekend 80-85 in texas (legal) for about 1hour+ and felt fine. scs 16s, bfg 265 /75 /16 on my truck.

why would you need an alignment at only 30k miles?
i have 22yrs and 120k miles and had my alignment checked once when I finally had to get some new tires! and it was a-oh-k

 

I routinely hit 90 and never feel anything like that.
