Its pretty much diy on a softopper. I'm using

Partsam 15" Smoke/Red 11 LED Waterproof Car Trailer Truck Stop Turn Tail Brake Light Bar Identification Light, Thin Line Smoked Red led strip light ID Bar

Went back and forth on this one or a red one. I went with the smoke version.

I'll tap into the driver's side tail but I'll be using a quick disconnect if I want to fold or remove the topper

Good chance I'm even worse at electrical/wiring than you are. Haha.

I'll try to remember to post some pics this weekend

Not much of a diy, but here ya go. Found some time today, so chanced it in the 100° degree weather in az.

Route the wire to the tailight. There's a hole underneath the bed cap. Fish it through. No pics, but there's a blue and white wire in the middle plug, tap these wires. Blue wire is power. White wire is ground....if I remember right.

I used a waterproof quick disconnect. This way I can still easily fold the topper or remove the topper.
    20190711_140352.jpg

And if I did want to remove or fold the topper I didn't want the plugs to be exposed. So i cut up another connector and used the Male and female connectors as dummy plugs. Filled the holes with epoxy.

Route wires to the brake light. I followed the strap, to the frame, and to the light. You can see in the first pic.

    Hope this helps.

That really does! Do you happen to have a pic or how you spliced into taillight?

No pic unfortunately. But I used positaps. [IMG]

I've read good reviews on these wire taps. I also have the meso stage 1 tails. So my wiring harness will prob look a little different than yours. Let me know if you have any questions.

How long was the wire coming from the led light? Did you have to add more wire or did it reach the tail light with the quick disconnect added in there?

@slowlane did you make the positap water proof in the tail light cavity? I'm assuming wrapped up in electrical tape or dielectric grease covering the connections?

The wire from the third brake light was maybe 10 inches. I had to solder extra to go the length to the quick disconnect.

I was looking at this and did it come with three wires? Did you connect the two hot wires together?

I did not. I only used the red wire. I figured there's no point in making the third brake light a running light since its mounted so high. I'd rather have it either off or on.

Good deal! I feel like you have been bombarded with questions since I asked lol. What gauge of wiring did you use to extend wires? Thanks for being so patient and understanding lol

It's an LED light. They don't draw much amperage at all.

Look at the pigtail connected to the light. Use whatever size that is. I'm gonna guess 18 awg, maybe 16 if you think 18 is too small.

No worries at all. Happy to help. I used 18 gauge. Feel free to shoot me any questions you have.
