Brake Upgrade: StopTech Rotors + TRD Performance Pads

I was going to hold off ordering the sequoia mc for front brakes but maybe ill get it anyway for my rear discs

 

I am not sure if the swap is possible for @alexplb if he has crawl control. From what I remember speaking with SOS, no M/C is compatible with that

 

The Sequoia M/C does not support ATRAC or Crawl Control, so if you have an OR or a Pro those features which use an electronic actuated booster will be lost.

 

Yeah just the front. There’s supposed to be 100% compatible with the factory master cylinder I just can’t wrap my head around what else it could be. Shop has literally tried every single way of trying to bleed them known to man lol computer hooked up with car running tapping on the calipers for bubbles to escape etc.

 

Yes I heard that that’s why I didn’t go with rear disc conversion trying to keep crawl control available

 

2017. Sos performance thought maybe it was a 2019 model which supposedly they have not tested the kit on and has a different module etc. I’m beginning to think maybe they haven’t tested it properly at all hahaha I mean come on wtf.

The ORs have a higher performing master cylinder. If they work on the sports with the stock master cylinder, they should work better on the OR with the electronically boosted MC.

 

Do you happen to know what piston sizes the Stoptech calipers use? We can use that to determine if there is a mismatch, or a bleeding issue.

 

Do you have a four piston or six piston caliper set? I'm looking at buying these myself...

 

Pretty sure the 16” compatible BBK only comes with the StopTech ST-60 6 piston calipers.

 

ST-60 calipers have many different sizes of pistons available so they can be tuned to the application.

 

Sounds right. ST-40 for 4 pistons and 60s for 6.

 

It’s a 6 piston I’m not sure on model designation shop called sos and have them the part number to make sure they sent the correct caliper in a first place

 

I have ordered these pads and rotors for the truck but apparently the Left cryo rotor is on national back order. However I was talking to a rep at Brembo and he told me that the direct on the surface cut slot has zero affect on performance. As in the slot that the pad surface runs across is just as effective regardless of direction as it is only off gassing the pad, clearing debris, and allowing air to cool the pad surface.

I ordered everything to complete this project a few weeks ago and have been fighting to find a Left rotor but it seems as luck would have it the right will work just fine.

 

OK who wants my stop tech kit $1800 in oc.

Probably going to be going back to OEM rotors and calipers did a bunch of testing here’s what it comes down to the stop tech calipers work on another Tacoma no problem, bolted back oem calipers to mine and they work fine as well bolted the stop tech back and again no go. Dealer is suspecting that the master cylinder is what’s causing this issue and propose to replace that but that’s $2200 on top of what I’ve alreadu spent. I’m not willing to throw into this since OEM calipers work just fine and I don’t need a $5000 brakes that’s insane. Apparently it’s an anomaly of some sort where it’s enouh pressure for oe but not so for stop tech. I’m so pissed

when i did my bbk kit i upgraded the mc to the sequoia one and had ABS engagement issues, it wouldn't engage at all so I had to reset and fire the abs solenoids with techstream to make sure they worked. everything works now but its not generally a plug and play kit for some.

I did the cryos and TRD pads recommended in the first post. Also did the speed bleeder swap on the fronts.

If you’re hanging around waiting for the left, you might want to consider checking your caliper pins and to see if you have any stuck pistons. I was surprised to find the pins really rusted on and one frozen piston...

But the again, I’m up North and you’re in AL- hopefully you won’t encounter those issues..

BTW, I got my rotors through Tire Rack...
