They didn't even enable my radio for the trial period. They called me soon after getting the truck, and I laughed at them and told them I was to cheap to pay for radio, I wonder if they cancelled my trial at that point. I got the paper work in the mail, tried to enable, and nothing.

    so fuck em.

So filled out the contact form I posted yesterday and Toyota customer care called me today. Basically they said no one has had issues and have my dealer look at it, but will log it Incase other have this issue.

I think this is Sirius/XM's problem. I had this problem with the Toyota Entune unit, and also with my new Kenwood Exelon DNX994S. In addition, we have problems in the Ford Taurus with Sirius/XM. For some reason, reception is horrible in Colorado, even in Denver. It's not like there are obstructions; this is just out in the open. I think that Sirius/XM has a serious bandwidth issue.

Mine cuts out in the same spots everyday going to and from work. Specifically driving on a bridge over a river and rail yard. Funny thing is that this happens in the summer time only. I have no signal loss in the winter at all. I blame SpaceForce for blocking the signal. I gotsta have my Tom Petty Radio.

    Update:

The issue seems to have disappeared. I've been on Ch 114 for several hours now, on my known travel routes and have yet to have it cut out.

    Anyone else experiencing improvement?

I’m on the road this week with a rental car so I won’t be able to help. And I should have been more specific when I explained my issues with channel 114 last Thursday. That was in my Ford not the Tacoma. More evidence that issues are not specific to the Tacoma.

Mine started cutting out about 3 weeks ago for 5 seconds or so on Ch 114 as well. Drove today for almost 2 hours and no issues.

Just to throw my 2-cents in..
I've had Sirius/XM for 10 years now, but always with add-on radios, never with it built in until my 2017 TRD Sport.

My previous vehicles would almost NEVER loose signal, unless I was in a tunnel or parking garage. My Tacoma drops it all the time, it drives me crazy. Especially since I drive the same routes now as I did before. It's definitely an issue with this radio/antenna setup.

Thought I would add to this year old thread. My 2019 Tacoma has same issue. Same route to work, cuts out for a second in 3 spots, clear view of the sky. I wonder if it's an antenna or signal amplifier issue. Some people have commented that other vehicles/years had no issue driving same route.

If it’s the same exact spots each time I’d blame it on an environmental thing rather than the antenna. If it was sporadic or not consistent, or longer than a split second I’d say it was the antenna.

I would agree considering its a digital signal. The number of responses stating no obstructions makes me want to believe either the satellite power is very low causing the signal loss due to atmospheric conditions (unable to overcome the normal amount of attenuation) or the antenna/amplifier needs more gain to overcome this. I have add on system in my 96 cruiser with no issues at all in the areas my Tacoma cuts out.
My post was more to add in that the issue seems to be the same in 2019.

An internet search of the issue seems to be the same across the board. People have problems with this setup but no issues in the same areas with their other vehicles. If it was the same with the other vehicles, I would be more inclined to think the satellite was just low in the sky or some other obstruction.

My satellite intermittently cuts out and has been doing it for years. For some reason it happens more when the outside temperature gets hot. It is definitely NOT a satellite coverage issue because I can hit the headliner behind the dome light and the satellite radio resumes. So, I have been doing this for several years and I think I will finally do something to fix it this summer. It must be a poor connection with the wiring or the coil that is in the shark fin antenna. Try thumping the roof in the vicinity of the antenna and see if it fixes the problem.
