Clutch replaced at 40k on a 14?

Hello experts, what do you think?

So I am looking at this 14 MT at 46k and CarFax shows that the clutch has been replaced at 40k. Isn't this odd? I know the clutch on the 2nd gen lasts a very long time. I used to drive an 05 and the clutch was replaced at 195k, this is only at 40k

 

Maybe the previous owner just sucked at driving stick.

look at the rubber pedal is first indicator

proper driving should get 100K +++

 

So if I test drive it and it doesn't slip, is it safe to buy the truck still?

 

if it was the bad driving habits, would it affect anything else negatively in the transmission other than the clutch? is there anything I should look out for?

 

Does the report say if the new clutch/trans work is under warranty? Personally I'd pass on that vehicle as there might be other potential issues with it from the previous owner's tender driving habits.

 

Is the truck supercharged by chance? That can kill the stock clutch mine lasted 8k miles after adding the blower.

If not, its likely the previous owner just couldnt drive stick very well. If you do buy it, itd be a good idea to change the trans fluid just to be on the safe side. With the MT its super easy, just a drain and refill like the rear diff

 

When I was a stupid kid (many many moons ago), I'd rock gently back and forth at stops with the clutch. Predictable outcome. If everything else passes a mechanic check, I wouldn't be too worried.

 

Hmm, I don't think it was under warranty. The report shows "40k service performed | Battery replaced | Drivetrain checked | Clutch replaced | Wheels checked". I guess I will have to wait for another MT then haha

Negative. It's just a base model

 

I bought a new 5.0 Mustang in the '80s. Used to get 20K on every clutch. Did it mean I ran the snot out of it? Yes, but the engine still outlasted the body by a long long time.

 

Wouldn't bother me, as long as the truck checks out fine otherwise. New clutch is a pretty expensive repair if you're paying a shop/dealer.

My clutch finally went out at 230k lifted, pulled a landscaping trailer....Pretty sure the previous owner peed sitting down.

 

I wouldn't be worried. Prob. more likely the PO didn't drive hard than drove hard. Look at other cues. Bent up underneath etc, etc.

 

I work around a lot of kids, they like to peel out every stoplight. That kills a clutch as does trying to bark 2nd everytime. I used to do it so i can't say much. I just got good at changing clutches.

 

It may have been one of those dealer add on services just to get some cash flow and owner didn't know any better.
Truck might be just fine. Might not be.

 

The clutch was replaced by the dealer? That is prob why the truck was sold, lol. Previous owner is now flat broke. I'd buy it, if everything else checks out. It is very likely they did not know how to drive it properly.

 

Possibly!! I am just waiting for some pics of the frame to pull the trigger but I have not heard anything from the sales people yet haha

 

These days, 40K mi. ain't many miles for a clutch, even when abused. 50 yrs ago clutches were a regular thing, kind'f like u-joints & flat tires, these days it just don't happen very often. In last 20 yrs. clutches just don't give much trouble, even when abused pretty bad. I'd probably think the stealership just shafted the unknowing customer. If the clutch feels & operates positively, I wouldn't worry at all. You sure can't completely forget it, after you read it, but if everything checks OK, it sure wouldn't be a deal breaker.
