Well im moving from BC to Edmonton AB where it gets ACTUAL cold in the winter, -40C is not unrealistic.
Since my truck was purchased in BC it didnt come with a block heater.
Does anyone have any experience with any styles, it seems theres a lot out there. The stick on ones for the oil pan seem like it wouldnt fit well if you know the shspe of the 4.0L
    Cheers

If you get the OEM Toyota/Lexus one, there's a factory provision for it right above the starter. 15 minute install. My truck started just fine with it this winter in Chicago when it was -55F out.

Do you think that's not the first thing I tried? Below are my search results.

Thank you for the links but telling someone to search on the internet is not helping you look any better. I'm asking for help for a reason and it's not because I didn't search, also I want to speak to people who have these conditions I requested.
    Thank you

Unlike some other forums, the TW search works VERY well.

Of coarse searching Google for just the terms block & heater is going to return a zillion results. I'll bet if you google searched for "block heater" Tacoma "4.0" you would find a lot of useful results. Or you could even google search for "block heater" and site:tacomaworld.com

Just because you failed to search properly, there's no reason to get pissy at someone that does a proper search for you and provided the link.

Check out Wolverine, they have many sizes and shapes....for oil pans, transmissions, batteries, etc.....

Where i live it doesn't usually get as cold as where you are, but i used to park my truck outside and i investigated my options and went with the oem toyota cartridge style one that the 4.0 block has provisions for.... I have a '15 and for '12-15 there will be an O2 sensor bracket in the way, had to remove that, install heater, then reinstall O2 bracket..... '12-'15 will have this bracket, model years prior the install was much easier....

Nope, I didn’t think you searched because you 1) didn’t say you searched and
    2) started a new thread when there are two pages of threads on the same subject.

BTW, I didn’t tell you to search, I provided the suggestion to search and spoon fed you the results from searching here. I’m sure there’s plenty of insight, like you asked for, if you take the time to read through them. OR you could sit back, wait and cross your fingers people will respond.

Good luck, I’m sure you’ll get what you’re looking for here.

OP, for the V6 the Toyota heater is a 400w cartridge insert that works very well. And a factory designed heater. Its a bit more work to do on yours ('12+) than the short time suggested above because of the secondary air injection pieces on the LH bank, but doable. I installed mine.

The Wolverine oil pan heaters can be done on the oil pan as well but takes some work to get them to adapt to the contours for proper heating. There is a thread here showing one installed on a 2.4L engine. I have two of the 125w rectangular one on my V6 oil pan as well.

Get the OEM block heater, a stick on oil pan heater and either a stick on or wrap around battery heater. Run all three plugs into a single short 3-1 extension and run that out the grill or lower bumper so you can plug in all three to a single outlet with one cord.

    Thats a great idea.
Do you know if a battery heater is needed with modern AGM?

I may just go with the OEM style, ill check my manuals for what kind of labour is involved. Previously, ive been lucky enough to install them on engines that had plenty of room to work so i removed the frost plug which i hate doing.

The OEM one does not require you to drain any coolant. The block is cast with a port and adjacent threaded hole. The OEM simply fits in the port and bolted. Seems like I unbolted the brace on the LH exhaust support and may have unbolted part of the drive shaft as well. IMHO it is best done working from beneath so plan on removing that undercover. Anyway a few have contacted me about the install and that was my advice and no one seemed to report any major headache...at least they are not talking

Yes, it makes a huge difference in cranking power having your battery warm vs quite literally ice cold.
