I’m starting to think @STravis has a better idea. The bracket probably won’t really be needed.
I drove a T Nut into the extra piece of honeycomb I have that I cut off my bed panels and it holds really well in there.
The hard part is now the shroud.

I’d probably recommend the Tnuts with spikes though just to help aid them from spinning. They drive in rather easy.

 

That’s basically how much will stick out on the inside after you go through the roof.
My bracket is 1/2”. Him thinking about ditching it now. It’s one less thing to worry about.
The shroud is the hardest part because of the way it bells when it’s cut that short.

Just finished a quick write up about our trip to grab the GFC! It's more road-trip than off-road adventure but it was still a blast!

 

I agree with needing the tee nuts with spikes. I had to grab somebody to hold the bottom to keep them from spinning when I installed mine.

 

Awesome it's super easy to cut. I just drilled the four corners to make the turns easier. Be careful drilling too. The closed cell stuff pulls the but into the open space if you land on one of the internal ribs.

I did. That's funny. I just had to do that to remember I was adding a crossbar there later. Trying to avoid simple oversights.

Tape is on the roof and marked out. I ran out daylight tonight. Maybe it will be in tomorrow.

Thinking about running it from the fan, over to the drivers side clear to the front and dropping the wire down the hole GFC puts in the cab overhang panel and into the bed where I have some 12v plugs.

 

I'll get some pictures tomorrow night. I just ran the wire in split loom and used some wire clips that double side tape to the roof. It seems like it is going to work very well.

 

A ratchet strap or cam strap, or any length of 1” webbing would work well.

 

Someone had mentioned latex mattress toppers.. I forget who, sorry.

But I ended up ordering a 1” full size mattress topper. Same price on Amazon as their site-

I might end up cutting down the mattress in the fixed panel like someone else posted, creating a cavity for storing sleeping bags.

I also want to look at flipping the panels upside down like someone else said.

Just FYI product dimensions aren't going to be big enough. Might want to get full size. Twin is 38"x75", it'll work for the removable panels, but cab-over is 45"x50" (overall is 50"x90") unless you don't mind having 2 mattresses in that portion.

 

Are you folks replacing the GFC mattress with the 1 inch topper or adding it to make it a 3 inch mattress?

 

I had a 1" latex topper I kept from my old rtt, which I cut up and put on top of the 2" gfc foam, making it 3", but only on the large panels since I have the old tent material which I wanted to leave room for when closing up with the square panels in place.
