cofran 15w 40 thoughts

Hey guys, what d u think of this engine oil : 15W40 Cofran for diesel and gasoline too, do you think I will lose performance or other?

 

The engineers spec'd 5W-30 for a reason. I think they know what they are doing. The only thing I use 15W-40 or 15W-50 on is an air cooled engine, i.e. Porsche 911, 930, 993 cars or diesel's that spec that weight of oil. Our engines will certainly drag down and suffer a decrease in performance especially in cooler weather.

 

Sorry for the mate guys, but I would chose this oil because it is for both diesel end gasoline engine and because the temperature in my country is about 20c° and 30c° so not cold weather, but what is the best oil i need to use for maximum performance? Why this 15w40 will affect the performance?is there some good brands and bad? Thanks

 

that oil is way too thick. a good 5w30 or a 5w20 will be fine for you more than likely.

 

I have just 2000miles and 8 months haven't done yet my first oil change I dont know if I need to change it now or if i can wait for the 5000 recommended miles

 

you will be safe changing it now and getting any break in metals outta there if you want to.

 

bra, you can change it at any time. However, you spent a lot of bucks buying a toyota and you have to ask, is this oil weight recommended? Probably not, check your manual.
I don't know what cofran is but you would want to know if it exceeds that standards of the oil recommended for your truck.
Oil recommended for diesels may have other additives in it that may not suit a gas motor. You could change your oil with the proper stuff (dino or syn) and do some research on this other brand of oil or you could ask your dealer, that would be the logical thing.

The age of the oil isn't as important as it used to be many years ago. It won't void your warranty for going over 6 months.

 

mobil1 5w30 will be great for your truck....and your motor will thank you!!!

 

In the northeast Mobil 1 is currently going for$25 for a 5 quart container at Walmart, more expensive in the auto parts stores where they carry it by the quart. Have not looked at other syn oil products but dino oil is still around $12-15 for a 5 quart container.
Taco filters about $5 at my dealer. While Mobil 1 may be expensive it is cheaper overall than if you went to a dealer .....

 

i just love these retarded posts. toyota calls for 5W-30!! it doesnt say choose what oil u like best. i can understand 0-30 even. but 15-40 ? bro come on get some sense will ya. the oil starts to thick wich is when u need the oil to be its thinest. start up causes the most wear on your engine. 15w at start up is obserde these are not 1970 muscle cars. enough with this ridiculous ideas every ones and engineer all of a sudden.

 

Have to agree with Bowhunter, stick with Mobil 1 and a quality oil filter and try to follow the manuals recommendations for oil change intervals and with reasonable care the truck should last a long time.

Problem, I've called every shop nearby my country and they don't have 5w30 mobil 1 synthetic, I've the choice between 5w50 synthetic wolf, maximus 5w40 or 20w50, what is your thoughts?

 

Sounds like a problem, however, perhaps you could tell us what country your in and since you bought a Toyota and there has to be a dealer some where near by that you could call and ask what the appropriate oil would be for where you are.
Now, if some standard brands of oil are not available to you, check your manual to see what types of oil will suit your truck. I really think your local/regional dealer would advise you or you could ask other Toyota owners what they do. I hope this helps.

5W 30 there is no way that there is not a store anyplace near u that doesnt have it.

 

Hello, sorry to tell you the truth but there isn't or it is very rare to find it,I've called every popular shop, and because I'm not in USA but in TAHITI , the toyota dealer don't sell tacoma here but only hilux, and I have imported my taco by myself i love the look. What do you think if I take the 5w40 or 5w50, whats the difference?

 

I would suggest to you that you email/fax Toyota and explain your situation and ask them to provide a solution or recommendation....after all Toyota has cars/trucks all over the world and under many different conditions.... Keep us updated.
