I have the 82 and I think it works well, but I dont have a license, people to talk to or a basic grasp of operating it, so take that with a grain of salt. We used hand held gmrs radios on a two week trip through utah and idaho and they were easy to use but only worked line of sight. I might upgrade to something more powerful with a dedicated outboard antenna

Speaking of Lexus. I'll soon have an LS400. Even though it's a 1991 it'll probably be the nicest car I've ever owned. Only thing wrong is........ It needs a starter and the brainiac engineers at Toyota in the late 80's decided the valley of a V8 below the intake manifold was a great location to put the starter. 210k on it, runs, when you can get it started, drives and is in fair condition. 2 sets of wheels and tires, new battery but ac needs recharged. Interior is ok, driver's seat obviously has seen all of the mileage but isn't horrible.

I wonder what I'll break first with a 250hp v8 rwd full size sedan? :burnrubber:

Oh yeah, if anyone needs to get a hold of me, I'll get you my "center console mobile phone" number and you can reach me directly in the Lexus. #ballinonabudget - that's why they call me BOB. :rimshot:

Least it's a simple job. Just a bunch of unbolting stuff. Might as well pick up new intake gaskets too

Glad you guys are rooting for me! :D

Already been talking to my buddy that swapped a 1uz into his 85 Supra. Big things are gonna happen.

And now I have to join another forum. 500hp on pre 94 factory engines is common without touching the internals.

    I don't think I mentioned the price....

@Usethe2nd :gossip: apparently the 1UZ is a swap for airplanes. :notsure: it's an FAA certified powerplant.

"In the early 1990s, Toyota began working with Hamilton Standard to develop a twin-turbocharged aircraft engine from the 1UZ. This resulted in the FV2400-2TC, which was a 360-horsepower fuel injected engine. Although they received FAA certification in 1996 and begun production in 1997, the project was unfortunately later abandoned."

My C55's n/a 5.4 v8 was bulletproof. The rest of the car, well not so much.

They also made a Marine version of the UZ engines. Was like 300hp N/A. Not sure if you can still grab them but they were a steal. Could pick them up brand new for $3k as a turn-key option. Was kind of cool since it had its own ECU too.

Speaking of bulletproof engines, I accidentally bought a new project a couple weeks ago.

It was my friend's dad's track car. It broke down on him while street driving about two years ago and he was so pissed off about it he had it towed home, stuffed it in the garage and ignored it until about a month ago when he decided he should sell it. Originally, I was going to just get it running and ready to sell, but he ended up offering it to me at a price I couldn't refuse and now it's mine.

The only issue was a seized water pump and snapped accessory belt, so it was back on the road again for under $500 in parts.

Mechanically, it's in great shape and has fairly low mileage (100k), but he was pretty rough on it cosmetically so I have a lot of cleaning and polishing to do.

Before/after on one of the panels:

It's looking a lot better now:

Oh, and it is pretty heavily modified and puts out around 600hp. :dancingbacon::dancingbacon::dancingbacon:

Dont think ive ever seen on in that color before (also not a huge Porsche guy either to be fair)

Always amazes me at people who have small issues and just sell for a loss instead of fixing it

The color is Lapis Blue with a Savannah Beige interior. It's a fairly rare color, which I like since most 911s of this era were silver or black.

The price wasn't much of a loss for him, I think it was a pretty fair deal actually. He doesn't work on his own cars, so everything the car needed he would have had to pay someone else to do. Between the mechanical and cosmetic stuff the car needed around $7k in work, but doing the work would have only increased the value of the car by $7-8k so it was a wash for him. Since I can do everything myself, all the work only cost me a few hundred dollars and some of my free time.

The alternator in the GX requires the removal of the power steering pump and the front hydraulic sway bar system. It took me 6 hours of swearing to get it done
