The taco will see a usable 180hp pretty much at all times. All the rest of the HP and torque are above 4k RPM. Ive towed a street bike on a flat trailer 1k-1200lbs and get 8-10 mpg and rpms don't drop below 4k. It screams and runs way to high in rpm range. Like towing with a 4cyl. Youll get better fuel mileage and towing capability with a V8.

Taco fuel economy pulling anything will suffer. I've pulled single axle utility trailers with no more than 1,200 pounds and gear hunting wasnt bad but mpg was about 11-12. To be fair i get 15 mpg as a daily driver though.

You really can get full size trucks that get better MPG than a midsize Tacoma and will pull better.

Can the vehicle handle the situations you mention?
    = Yes.
Is there a difference in Tow options for 2016 - 2019 TRD Sport/OR/Pro?

I guess a few people missed the sentence I highlighted in bold.....

If you're looking to downsize and are towing 2500 to 3000 lbs, the Tacoma will do just fine. I have to tow shit for work and we also have a 5th wheel. For that we have a full size diesel.

However, on days when the diesel is preoccupied (or when I just don't need it) I've towed the water buffalo with the Tacoma (about 3500 lbs) and it will easily do the job.

    Well,
    How'd it go?
Good on you for testing with a trailer! Sounds simple, but there's so many that buy, and drop by to carpet bomb with complaints, never to return again. Many, if not almost all, are traits that could have been identified before signing the paperwork.
To answer your question: it's really up to you, about how you think the load feels. And, in my opinion, now often you tow.
Good luck either way, tow safe

Interesting all of the different opinions. I just bought my 2019 V6 auto a few weeks ago. Will mainly be driving to work and back and around town. I will be towing an enclosed trailer to the mountains 2-3 times a year at most. That will be roughly 100 miles each way. I just ordered a 6x12 enclosed this week. The enclosed trailer fully loaded will be right at 2,500 lbs max. I also had them add electric brakes even though it is a single axle.

Depends on where you will be towing. Down the street, or fairly long inclines? Altitude?

I just got back from a week towing a small utility trailer, maybe 1800-2000lbs.

MPG took a big hit, but that was expected. Without trailer, I'm lucky to get 16-17, with it, I'm in 13-14 at best. 11-12 seemed to be avg.

What bugged me most is trying to keep a decent speed up, especially up hills or against a headwind. There are times it will be screaming in 3rd gear, just trying to stay at 50mph uphill.

So, I took the 2016 out with my enclosed trailer. I thought it did well. Everywhere here is flat. I pulled the trigger on a 2019 Double Cab long bed with the sport package. Only time will tell how mpg do. I can tell you my Titan has been stuck on 12.9 for a year. It's when I run around with it (no trailer) that it looks for gas stations.

If you don’t need the truckbed, just tow capacity, and maneuverability, maybe get a VW Touareg. It will out-tow the Tacoma and is a nice place to be.

Here is the question, what is the weight you’re towing? Your first post states some numbers and then later you post you have not weighed your trailer loaded??? If you tow often as you claim, then you should know these numbers and have weighed previously. The Taco will tow but it’s not designed to tow on a regular basis, it’s just not. If you’re towing only every weekend, then you should be fine if you know your weights.

Love to hear how it goes. I pulled the trigger on a 19 4x4 dc. We'll see. I know I'm sick of the land yachts.

Pretty much my use. Our enclosed trailer is 1100lbs empty, 3500lbs gross. Towed weight average is 1900-2000 lbs.it tows well. Fuel economy isn’t what I hoped but not a problem. 10-12 mpg highway in the mountains.

In the mountains. That, I don't have to worry about. Locally, biggest hill is a landfill. LOL Beyond that, cottage in Michigan couple small inclines on the way. When I drove the 16 (with trailer in tow) I was impressed. When I test drove the 19, even more. Felt very smooth, quiet and refined. I can tell you hands down, much nicer ride and quieter than my Titan. And it's an SL, loaded with all the bells. I had 2 Tundras before that. Toyota has still got me impressed with quality. From the sound of the door shutting and beyond. As for seating, I'm 6' 178, long torso. I found the position perfect. I was leery when reading about guys 5-10 saying they're too small of a truck. Just how wide are you? LOL Anyhow, like any big dollar decision, I've done too much research and there's no turning back now. I hope it's as great as I imagine.

My only concern may be trailer squat. I may have to do sumo's or something for that. I've also seen enough of the freeway warriors doing 80mph, then not doing 80mph because they blew a trailer tire or bearings. Trailer tires are rated to 60mph. For a reason. I know I'm chancing it at 65. I'll know for real how this truck does pulling the skis or 4 wheelers to the cottage soon enough. I know I won't be basing my mileage on an 80mph trip. I'd be ecstatic if I saw 14 towing.

Have you researched what pro, trd, OR, sport, and SR/SR5 mean?

Between the v6’s, the only difference between towing is a faux hood scoop. Otherwise they are all the same.

I'm getting the double cab sport with the upgrade package, leather, moonroof etc. I liked the fake scoop as well. I think the pro suspension would be too soft, and I really don't like the snorkle.

The snorkel is way more betters at doing its job than the scoop. I wouldn’t worry about any of the oem shocks for towing. The leather has zero effect on towing. You’re good to go with any trim, but if towing is your thing, a Tacoma is not the truck you seek.
