    Hey guys.....

    Stupid question #638

How often are we supposed to change the coil packs?

I have about 315k miles on what I believe are my original coils.

I'm guessing it might be a good idea to replace them?

It's good insurance to do so. Pretty impressive if they are the original packs though!

I just ordered a new set from Rock Auto. NGK's. I ordered a new MAF sensor too.
I'm guessing I should slowly start replacing stuff now before I get stuck later.

They are $50 each so I am waiting until one throws a code. There is a thread with a 400k Taco and it has 5 of the six original coils. One died near 400k.

This is generally sound to assume. Just buy one and throw it in the glove compartment for a rainy day. Because you know, that's when it'll misfire and leave you on the side of the road.

That is good advice. And when you use the one in the glove box, buy another one and keep that one in the glove box. So forth and so on.

PS: I don't believe that there are stupid questions. The only thing stupid about a question is not asking it in the first place and suffering the consequences because you didn't ask.

Good insurance. I may do this next time the Denso coils go on sale.

Today the parts arrived from Rock Auto.

I replaced the coil packs, plugs, and MAF sensor with all new parts.

Took it for a drive and the issue seems (knock on wood) to be resolved.
