OVTune 3.5L Tacoma Supercharger and Twin Turbo Systems

Anyone have any specifics on tacoma 2gr pistons, besides the fact that they are 11.8:1 compression?

 

Whatcha curious about?

 

My guess is the valves bounce off their seat...then the valve spring breaks and you drop valve.

 

Pistons...rings...can often be a weak link when boosting a nat aspirated motor.

 

Would love a video to hear what those turbos sound like.

 

Anyone know how much torque the stock clutch in the 6MT can handle?

 

Probably wont hear them in that low mount spot?

 

Wonder how the intake routing is gonna look with an IC mounted up front. I’m super eager to see an install video and demo.

 

You'll be able to hear them I'm sure, just probably won't be seriously load. Now the blow off valve MUST be loud so you can scare people, wtf did that just come from a Tacoma? Shhh toot toot toot

 

I remember Mat voicing some concern about it at higher HP levels a while back. We will probably have to just wait and see when they start giving out, because i don't believe anyone has tested the limits so far. One thing is all but certain, the 6MT clutch will have to get replaced well before issues arise with the AT. The irony, considering the 3rd gen AT history so far.. lol

 

don't even ask. just plan to replace it with the kit. mine already slips when i git on it.

I just received my OV Flash kit and I can't believe there is no OV Tuned decal! Missing a marketing opportunity there

 

any more pictures of where the turbos sit? Are they lower down? Any possibility of them going under water in say a water crossing?

 

That is so the tune stays under the radar at the dealership service department. Hypothetically scenario.

Owner “Hey my truck has a squeaky set of leaf springs”

Service writer goes out to get information off truck. Service writer sees OV Tune sticker on back glass. Comes back to owner. “Sorry to inform you your warranty is void the OV Tune you have on the truck made your leaf springs go bad.”

 

They are under the cab between the transmission and the frame rail on either side. They will definitely get dunked in a water crossing. Supercharger will most likely be the best bet for off road service. Dunking hot cast iron in cold water could result in issues. I have personally cracked an exducer housing putting out a fire in the belly pans on a dozer before.
These turbos may have cast steel exducer housings so water would be a non issue as far as cracking if that is the case. $0.02
