Looks like you're running a K&N dirt ingestion intake

On the computer screen it looks like sand/dirt. Couldn't really tell on my phone. Really need to see it in person though. Have you ever seen mashed up bearing material before? Almost looks like aluminum shavings.

    Yes. :pout:

Think you might be on to something.

    IMG_20190709_211150.jpg

Quite a bit of dust behind the air filter. However, I've always run a paper filter and replaced them at least once a wheeling season.

I remember comparing with @Deathbysnusnu once, and his looked better with a K&N. Maybe I should switch. :tinfoilhat:

Pretty sure it would taste like motor oil. :cookiemonster:

Feels like fine sand. Never seen bearing material before though, so don't know exactly what that's like. Doesn't look like aluminum shavings.

Cut your oil filter open and you’ll remove all doubt either way

Enough to make it a lot of fun!
Only way to do that is to get out there. Have you finished your axle?

    I'll cut it open tonight.

What exactly am I looking for that will confirm bearings or not?

I've spent a few days now in the Red Desert. There's so many two tracks out there, it would take forever to explore them all.

Pull the media pleats apart and see if they are full of glitter basically. If you aren't sure but it seems like there is material in there, just scrape it out and rinse it in water to get to the particulate matter so you can better see what it is. Shiny is bad in a nutshell.

The oil that came out of the filter looks like it was sprinkled with gold glitter.

All these larger pieces are ferrous, and theres some on most every pleat.

    Just shy of 290k.

Not sure I have an engine swap in me financially or technically.

You just pulled the dumb thing, fabbed up engine mounts, rebuilt front clip.......
    Can I introduce you to @BBR ?
That man is my inspiration when it comes to a "can do anything" approach.

Chris may have one. Think he is parting out a 3rd gen 4runner. Pretty sure it has less than 200k on it. Not likely before the trip though. I'll ask him.

You really need to learn how to spell TURBO!

All the 6' bed Tacoma GFCs are the same.

And not bad a all on the weight. Didn't hardly notice a difference over my standard height topper. I drive rather spiritedly offroad and do not feel held back by it at all.
