Not Happy with my 2018 Tacoma Limited

Same, I test drove a 3rd gen before I got my 2015. Ended up greatly preferring the 15, got mine CPO with 7k miles on her.

 

You gave yourself a platform of questions such as "if your around so much how come you don't know?" Combine that with the internet and here we are.

With that said, these trucks were not designed to be race cars and the transmission is really subjective. It will learn your driving habits, however there is the ECT button as well as "always on" mods to give you more of what you're looking for if so inclined. But it is the buyers responsibility to know what hes about to throw $30k+ on. Then again, I'm the type of person that can't afford to throw money around like that and spend 2 months of research to buy something for $200, but I digress.

I sincerely hope you find what makes you happy, but for this community, you need to grow an extra layer of skin or you won't survive. All the best.

I don't know. I'm not mechanic or an engineer. I can only relay my experience with the truck. I thought the truck was underpowered, but then I realized I was having no problem passing up people on the Highway I-25, and a cop flashed his lights at me to slow down going up a hill on 285 in the mountains of Colorado.

The pedal lag, yes, I think that is what makes it feel sluggish. It is what it is. Toyota did the same thing to the Camry and the rav4, and a Nissan Murano I rented last year had the same thing.

 

2016 - present have same engine and tranny just different software which can be flashed.

 

Totally agree with this post. Yes, you need to anticipate when she'll downshift and when she might bog during acceleration (as she goes up a gear) and work the accelerator and sport shift accordingly. Its an active driving experience and I have no issues with it. I can easily squeeze 23 MPG out of my OR-LB in mixed driving when paying attention to the RPMs etc.

Maybe someday I'll splurge for the OVTune but I really like my 2019 Tacoma.

 

Test drove a used 2015 and a new 2019; reached the opposite conclusion. Liked the refinement of the 2019.

Its not the transmission that's the problem, it's the throttle software that's causing the issue. Toyota has TSB 0062-18 to resolve this, take it to the dealer and they will update the software for you. It's not a perfect fix but much better that how the truck came from the factory. I've also installed a throttle adjuster (Sprint Booster, plug-n-play) and that's been a huge help in managing the throttle problem.

I have had my Tacoma 2018 ,and since day one,,i have been saying to may Dealer that i just can t get use to this model!
Strange to say,i loved more my 2007 then this one.
Don t get me wrong,very nice truck,and full loaded,,though the lack of power just pisses me off,and i do regret that i bought it!
I am still thinking that one day ,,i might trade it in for something else!!
I did brought it back after 6 months and they recalibrate,or whatever they call it,,,Man it s still the same,,underpower ,specially aroud 80 kilometers...
Toyota,,you sure made a freakin mistake changing the gear and motor!!

I bought my 2016 back in March. It had 14,600+ miles on it, from a guy in Texas. I'm pretty sure that he drove it in "D"rive all the time. If left in "D", I think a slug could beat me in a mile race! After driving my '15 Highlander, I started using the "S" mode all the time. So I just used that on my Tacoma.

Then in May, I drove it up to Ogden Utah and back. By the time we got back, the truck's behavior had changed!

I still go directly to "S" Mode, but it seems like it has better acceleration now.

 

Long time lurker too... Is this where I write, "You should have bought a MT", to add fuel to this fire?

All kidding aside. I feel for you. There's nothing worse than WANTING to like a car but not feel happy with it. I've been there. I think many members have given you excellent advice and hopefully your issue gets resolved. Welcome to the forum!

 

Makes me glad my 2nd gen was a 2.7, makes the 3.5 seem pretty stout.

yup... test drove the Gen 3 and bought my 2013. Love it! Ok, having said that I do wish I had some updated technology.
