Just paid $25 for 2 year reg for a utility trailer at the vacation place. CT is way out of whack.... but we pay it so maybe we are?

 

Meet in the middle.

My buddy in a northeastern state is doing well $, only needs good internet & proximity to an airport for his job. His N.E. state income tax was so steep, he bought a 2nd house in FL. He's now a FL resident, uses his home in the N.E. when he has to visit the office on rare occasions or if FL is getting too hot to his taste. The tax savings on his income is paying the mortgage + on his FL place; basically the FL house is free.

I HAVE to be here another 18 months, then …. TBD.

 

I've been to FL, and to be honest with you, I don't like it. Too flat... No scenery... No "seasons"... It's BLAH. Not my thing. And as much as we complain about living here because of the cost of living, etc, I kinda like it. This is where we "settled" when we moved to the USA, so it's "home away from home".

 

I got to thinking one winter when I was hating NY - why do I live in NY? Realized I lived in NY because my parents live in NY, because their parents lived/arrived in NY, because their parents lived/arrived in NY.... Realized we were a lazy people & I left.

I've lived in 7 states since, 8 if NY 2x many years apart counts. 2+ years per state.
I'm more a desert or tropics person, never too hot, too wet, or too flat for me.
(and I'm done with vehicle rust!)

 

LOL! I should probably be like you then. We moved here because of my mom's sister. My parents did it the right way. No illegal shit. They filled the paperwork when they got married in 81, my aunt who had lived here for many years already vouched for them (you need that in order to even apply for a visa), and their luck finally arrived in 94. They got the call saying the paperwork had finally gone through, so we all went in for an "interview". Got the visa, and the rest is history. I was 12. Turning 38 next month. So in a way I'm like you; family moved and lived here, so we did the same.

Where I'm from in Portugal is nothing like it is here. Winters are mild compared to here, without snow. If we got snow, everything would basically shut down. Summers are hot and dry, no humidity whatsoever. I should hate living here just because of the weather... But now that I live here, I don't think I could move. Sure, I'd love to move somewhere where the weather is nicer, cheaper cost of living, etc... But deep down inside I don't think I could. All of my friends are here, my parents are still here, and for the time being so are my in-laws (even though I think that if we were ever to move, they would follow).

I dunno though... For the time being I like it here I guess. But who knows what the future holds.

Ended up cutting the grass across the street yesterday when I got home from work. Started when it wasn't doing anything, and by the time I was about 3/4 of the way done it was raining, but finished it.

Today after work I have to go do my friend's lawn, then the in-laws.
