Maybe they had it replaced it early because of the throwout bearing chirp, wouldn't be the first time I've heard of that.

I would ask the dealer what they know about the previous owner, you might be surprised. I bought my Tacoma from a Subaru dealer in Redwood City CA and they told me the original owner has a couple restaurants in San Fran and they used the truck for running restaurant supplies. I never asked anything about previous owners but they told me this anyway :D

    Too few to list.
Could be this. Mine (09) starting making a sound at around 30K though I though they maybe had fix this issue in the later models.

Either that or it could be the loads of torque the 4.0L produced down low more than the 3.5L :duel:

If you look at the carfax at 40K they replaced the clutch, at 55K they replaced the pressure plate and T/O bearing. Something was going on with that clutch.

yes yes, I did see that but I had no idea what that meant. I thought the maint. they did at 55k was reg. maint.
Plus I am also curious why they performed the 50k 55k maint when the truck is only at 46k.
Thank you for bringing that up.

My 04 does it and so does a lot of earlier 1st gens...been an issue with Tacomas for many years. Though I don't think I've read about it on the 3rd gens yet

Oh I have that too, lol. Usually only in the mornings when it's cold, once it warms up it goes away.

This base model has the tow hitch, which appears to have been used.

    Maybe overloaded?

Wonder if the previous owner went mudding alot, got it stuck alot, and just burned up the clutch prematurely?

To the OP: You can tear up a new clutch in a month if you drive it like an idiot. What does the rest of the underside of the truck look like?

That's the whole situation. OP asked for pics of the underside, and the dealer hasn't complied.
