I have the opportunity to buy this and they are asking too much, but they are negotiable. I offered them $16000, they are asking $21000, but you could buy them new for that. I am offering 75%, am I offering too much. Kelley blue book says the trade in value should be $16,800, but that seems kinda high.
    Thanks for all the input.

What should a this truck be worth with only 8000 miles?

8000 miles is super low on a daggum good truck...$21K might be a tad high but not by much i dont think

maybe I should offer him $18,500 with a limit of $19,000. If he refuses I guess I will just part ways then.

thats sounds like a good plan of attack. thats an awesome truck though, especially with only 8k miles. i got my 04 a few months ago(traded my 06 for it),a nd i paid about 19 or 20k, and it had 46k miles on it. hope you get the truck man........they're awesome and hold resale value very well.

the more i think about it...$21K from a dealer for a truck with 8k miles aint that bad...but you have to wonder why its got so few miles on it...i mean thats like 2K a year...was it wrecked and fixed or has it been with the dealer since 04? or just some old man just needed a truck for some hauling etc and never drove it?

if its wrecked and fixed or the dealer has had it that long...id bet they'll bite on the lowball offer...if its just used that little it will prob be hard to talk them down

any pics of said truck? or list of options?

It isn't being sold by a dealer. It is being sold by some 70 something year old man. He has owned since day one. The carfax on the car is squeeky clean. He says he had the oil changed in the truck 4 or 5 times in the 4 years he has owned it. He also said he drove it back and for the the grocery store and 2 back and forth from Arizona to Denver.
I have not seen the truck yet, but I am going to make the drive from vegas to laughlin to meet him there tomorrow to take a look at it. I may be a tacoma owner again tomorrow.

cool...again i dont see anything terribly wrong with the price...esp if theres nothing wrong with the truck...

3 years ago i paid that price and my truck had more than 3 times the miles on it and was 3 years old at the time

Good plan. I found my 02 4x4 extended cab TRD auto tranny with everything on it except the limited pkg. back in 05, it had 19200 miles on it, 3 years old. The owner had it on Autotrader for $19400. When I saw it, I didn't even dicker with him, I just gave him a deposit and said I'll take it, 'cause I knew it would be gone that afternoon if I didn't take it.

Point is, if it is the truck you're looking for, you can set a limit you are comforable with, whether that is 19K, or what, offer slightly less than that with the option of going higher. If you do all that and reach your limit, with no sale yet, at that point you can decide to walk away or not. If there is a sale within your limit, you're set. My .02.

    :flame suit on::D

the 01-04 tacomas are arguably the best series of tacomas ever produced

reliability is 2nd to none and a whole lot sturdier than the new trucks

id pay 21K for the 8000mile 04 long before id pay 21K for a brand new version of the truck

true the new ones might not be built as great as the older ones, but for an extra 7 grand you can have a brand new double cab with 4wd with a warranty.

    ehhhh

im still partial to the earlier tacos

i was in the position in 05 when i bought mine to either buy a new one or a used one...i think i was looking at around a 25K truck at the time...and i opted for the earlier one sans warranty and i cant be happier with my truck...ive put 60K hard miles on my truck and abuse it and ride it hard and put it up wet and it not once not ever complains

i really doubt he'll need the warranty on the 04 ;)

+1-and I add that the 01-04 series will retain a "coolness" factor that trucks like the Hilux and the old Landcruisers have not only because these were the pinnacle of reliability, but also the body lines unique to these trucks that are classic cues of muscle
    bubble hood
    flared wheelwells
    bigtooth grill
indented beltlines on front and rear fenders
I think you oughtta get yourself one too!
