No worries lol

 

Just seeing this now. Was out for a night of bushwhacking backpacking Friday with my best friends the deer flies, mosquitos and fuckers er i mean horse flies. Schoolwork Saturday and managed to squeeze out 3 wing suit flights today. I would still like to get out for a rip through the Calabogie line with you guys this summer! Time, need more of that time stuff! I have been doing a little occasional exploring and have started working in the paint on the 2018 TRD, mmm scratchy trees!

 

The Wabun Lk or Rusty Bat trail as once of the local clubs call it would be an ok ride also, it is near the Calabogie line. There is def time for both in a day. Any of you up for a night of camping after a day of wheeling, pending of course that we can tolerate each other offline!!

 

I'm in for a day of wheeling, and camping after. I am sure we will like each other lol if not, we'll just go to bed earlier

 

I am new to the Ottawa area but could meetup - weekends are usually tough with young-ins but definitely could do a week night meet. Also this is my first truck coming from a Subaru Outback 07 so still have lots to learn about truck'n.

 

I did the Calabogie line 2 weeks ago. My brother was exploring around eastern ON and wanted to do some trails, and he was camped at the western end of the trail off Buckshot Lk Rd. Western part of the trail was rocky, slow, and tight - got some new scratches. One deep puddle right at western end, and one steep rocky section that was a little dodgy, had to get my bro to spot me there, but otherwise nothing too bad. Took us 5 hours to do the western half of the trail, but eastern half is just dirt roads with cottages. We ended up staying out 6 nights, did some crazy wet trails north of Elliot Lake, did the loop from Wawa to Timmins and back, camped on crown land. God, the flies were hungry up north.

I'd be up for running Calabogie line again or other trails. And camping! I'm off to explore PEI next week, but will be around the rest of the summer. If I go out again, I'll post before I go, see if anyone else is up for it. (Trip with my brother was mid-week and spontaneous.)

There are some routes from Sudbury up to the Timmins area also. I will be that way for the fall if anybody wants to check that route

that sounds awesome! Elliot lake is beautiful! im actually heading to Thessalon which is in that area on Saturday for a few days then im heading up to Kapuskasing midway thru the week. my mom will be with me so no exploring for me unfortunately hahaha

 

Are any of you guys off tmrw? I did a double day today and am not working tmrw, not skydiving this wknd since my feet are still sore from some not so ideal landings last wknd... would hit up the area past the calabogie hydro damn for some putting around. I plan to camp tmrw either way, if anybody is up for it I know a couple good spots along the calabogie line that are not the shit spots right on the road, otherwise I'm headed backpacking again with the bugs tmrw night

 

If you guys like hiking the trip up Mount Carleton in New Brunswick is well worth the side trip. I ran up and down in 3hrs via the short route a couple yrs ago. They say it takes 6-9hrs if you do the loop, which is apparently more scenic but for a quick up and down with the best view from the top it is worth the effort. Mount Carleton is the highest point of elevation in the Maritimes and is at the top end of the Appalachian mountains.

Mentioning this reminds me that I will be heading up to Ishpatina ridge in September, it is north of Sudbury and is the highest point of elevation in Ontario. Access is via hike, canoe, or float plane. I will be hiking once the truck is parked as far as it can go. On past trips there we did two nights to make it nice and chill. It could be done as a crazy long fast day trip if you're very fit and ready to move sunrise to sunset.

 

I like hiking. DId a lovely hike into Frontenac last month with my girls. And I did my fair share of running up mountains and hiking sunrise to sunset when I was younger, but those days are behind me. Nowadays when I do a multi-day hike, I spend most of my time worrying about the incidental costs associated with a helicopter rescue if I survive the heart attack. Did you see the photo of my brother in Calabogie? Not exactly ready for a half marathon. I'm a couple years younger but cut from the same cloth.

Well, I carry a SPOT beacon in the event that I need a rescue and don't stress about the cost or other potential issues of being injured! I plan to hike the LaCloche trail the last week of August and am nearing 42 yrs of old age. My old dog that is 8.75yrs old is coming along also, planning 4 days of travel with a day of chilling in the middle, so that works out to 20k avg per day travelling. Your brother looks ready for the MEC 50k on Aug 11th! I may go for the 20k version of the race..

If there is a rainy wknd forecasted in August or a wknd with high winds forecasted I would get out for a night, run wabun lk then calabogie line, maybe add in a day hike up to crag lk because i sure won't be taking the tacoma up that trail, it is a really nice spot. once september rolls around i will likely be out of the area again.

 

I'm on vacations this week. Kinda busy, but if you guys are on vacations too we could set something. A morning, an evening, a day ride, whatever lol

hi, I would be willing to come out and play, I have Toyo Open country 2 on military style rims, and anytime need a hand to do some work on your Tacoma I will help out, I did my running boards, bull bar, and LEDs on main headlight and fog. I have the TRD package off road suspension, locking diff, hill assist. 5 speed auto.
