Replacement CV shafts

I was talking about this with a friend and we both agreed the price isn't the problem the strength is.

As nice as it may be to have a strong CV. those CVs are probably stronger than the diff is, and I'd rather the CV be the weak point than my diff. CVs are easy to change on trail compared to a diff lol.

 

That's what I run and have a spare of. Just make sure you get the red high angle boots. The regular boots on mine are cracking after 4 years.

 

I need a place that makes strong cv joints that I can buy without purchasing the shaft.

I just purchased a set of +3.5" RCV's for a 2nd gen (CVJIFS-TOY2+3.5). I've read this argument on multiple forums, but I haven't found much feedback on people blowing through front diffs after installing them. With as common as they are in Ultra4 and high end racing applications, I'm sure RCV has done their homework.

 

You say this but do you really think those racing in ultra4 have stock diffs still?
They are all running much bigger tires so all have had gears and other stuff done to the diff to strengthen it.

 

All I'm saying is they are a big company, and very involved in the racing community. If this was your company, would you mass produce components for STOCK differentials without looking into it first?

 

I'd imagine you would but you're also making a rather specific part for serious upgrades and the diff would often be done as well

 

Worst case scenario, the clamshell explodes and a bigger one goes in. That'll make it one more step closer to being bomb proof. If this has better articulation than the OEM's as claimed I'll be more than happy with them. The amount I have to strap the front to prevent binding makes me cry sometimes. I think people severely underestimate these diffs. Look at how many have done V8 swaps with the stock 8" front & 8.4" rear. It's also probably worth noting that my order is #00000054, so that explains why there aren't many reviews, lol.

I also discussed them with All-Pro since they offer these on their site and used them in their "Brownie" build. They said that the original spherical boot was prone to leaking/water intrusion, but RCV has since re-designed the boots and no issues. They were running 37's as well on an overland build.

 

Thinking of running this as a spare just to get me off the trail and back home and then replace it with OEM once I’m home..

Does the side matter? They’re labeled by left/right. I didn’t think they had designated sides. I just don’t wanna buy a left side, have the right side break

I had good luck with NAPA's on my 01. I would recommend those over Autozone/Advance/O'reilys.

You run a spare in a pelican case right? Or was that a different member? I remember someone posted it once .. I thought it was a pretty neat idea lol.

 

Mines actually just in a box behind the seat. It’s a new cardone axle

 

The $2500 are the RCV axles with the orange boot, best axle money can buy but way too much money Ive had good experiences with gsp cv axles, they seem to hold up to decent abuse on moderate trails and get me home no problem plus a decent affordable price I was looking into getting more heavy duty CV axles but I can never justify thousands regardless of reputation or how good they are, let me know what ya find
