Polyurethane Radiator Support Mounts (Cab Also)

My thoughts seem to be correct. It appears the bolt being misaligned has also made the tube oblong. So that tells you how much it was binding up. Took apart both sides today to install the 84109 bushings and the drivers side bolt was actually bent in addition to the insert being oblong! My truck is an 05 with 100k miles and has never really been offroad or seen abuse, I'm surprised by how bad the core support alignment is. It appears I'm just gonna have to deal with some clunks if the 84109 kit doesn't do the trick.

 

Update: Installed the 84109 kit and now the creaks and clicks are back, but no clunks. Lol. Unless I have some other issues up front that are causing this noise I don't know what else to do. But I'm still pretty sure the rad bushings are the cause since the noise changed when I installed the other kit. I'm just going to deal with it at this point .

 

My only complaint about these mounts is how horrible they look halfway through one winter. Their zinc coating is garbage on the hardware. The washers are trashed already

 

Just noticed the same thing. Maybe I'll look to see if my local place has Stainless Steel?

 

Stainless steel washers would make it look better, but i imagine the collar down inside the bushing is going to be rotted too...thats what really matters

 

So my oem bushings were thrashed and being annoying af so I’m replacing them but I wanted to get input I have a prerunner bumper and my truck is gonna be seeing much abuse so should I still do the thick on top?

 

Definitely go thick on top. My truck is stock and I didn’t notice a single difference with how my hood lined up or anything else. Not sure what people are talking about with a “slight lift” lol. But just do it for good measure

 

Installed the small one on top cause I didn’t want to mess with frame misalignment going 60 over whoops and I couldn’t be happier my truck sounds badass again no more sounding like a rusted junkyard bronco

 

How are you guys getting the large bushing between the frame and body? Currently running the small bushing/washer combo between body and frame. However, washer and bushing are becoming misaligned with normal driving

I'm getting ready to replace the radiator supports with the

$34 9.4101G UNIVERSAL MOUNT

9.4101G kit as someone mentioned having fixed a similar "clunk" as I have described in other threads. I thought it could have been the IFS skid, but I removed that for a few days and the clunk still existed. Obviously, you can go this route if you haven't already (post was from July 2018).

I first noticed my clunk when starting to drive in the opposite direction as I was moving when I parked, and having the wheel turned. Now, I hear it when I start moving in the opposite direction as I was moving when I parked. (i.e. if I back into a parking space and then start to move forward, or pull into the driveway and back out the next morning.) My clunk isn't reliably repeatable, but is increasing in frequency. It also only happens when I first start to move. I'll hear it once, and then I won't hear it again until the next time I go to drive the truck.

My clunk ended up being the lower control arm bolts being too tight. I loosened them with the truck on its own weight, jumped up and down on my sliders, then torqued to spec...and it's gone.

Mine seemed to be the same times as yours, but it did it almost every time. I started to narrow down that it was in the suspension as it seemed like it was loading up when I'd turn full lock and back into a spot, then straighten out the wheels and then "clunk" like it was releasing tension. Almost thought my coils might be binding.

I came across another member or thread about the LCA's and figured I'd give it a shot, glad I did haha

Edit: I did have other noises that these poly bushings took care of, but not this particular one. Now I'm due for a brake job and will do the whole "two clips instead of one per caliper" to get rid of the little ping I get when going from forwards to reverse or vise versa. Then I should be noise free....for now!

 

LCA is not my problem. I replaced those less than 10k ago and torqued everything properly. The clunk does sound almost identical to a loose LCA though...

Either way, would just want to get some clarification on others who have done this with stock bumpers. Which of the following or what combo did you use?

Big bushing up top + No washer up top

Small bushing up top + washer up top

If you have a stock bumper you want to use the smaller bushing up top. If you are going for maximum bumper to fender clearance you want to use the larger bushing up top.

You ABSOLUTELY use a washer up top!!

I don't remember the part numbers but the cab mount kit comes with radiator support bushings. I just don't like them because they are softer than the independent kit with the large hockey puck style bushing.

 

Awesome. Ok yeah thanks for the info. Mine are just creaking like CRAZY and its driving me INSANE. Can't take it anymore. Did you order straight from Energy suspension or just Amazon?

 

I think Amazon. It's been years since I did this mod.

Use black as they are self lubricating. Red will dry up and begin to make noises.
