Spotted yesterday on Hegenberger, in Oakland. Near the airport.

GEICO just called me. Mercury called them and admitted fault. I expect a call from them within the hour.

The usual slight neck stiffness that will likely get a little stiffer, not bad though.

He was. I looked in my mirror right before impact. I don't think he even looked up until he hit me. Fortunately, we were moving. He was just moving faster than I was. Maybe equivalent to a 20-30 mph impact.

I wouldn't talk to his insurance, tell them they can get your statement from your insurance company

I admit I was pretty heated. I stayed in the truck for a few minutes to gather my info and my thoughts. He was apologetic about the whole thing. I didn't think he needed a scolding from me. He knew he fucked up.

They don't need to question me. The driver admitted fault. They just want to know where to send the check for repairs.

He rear ended you. 99% of the time it's their fault, says the law. No doubter in this instance. Definitely let your insurance company take care of everything.

Still even in causal conversation they will try to pick things out of you, they are trained to do this, because any small percentage of fault they can put on you lessens the liability on their part/saves them money.

and if they put even say 10% fault on you your insurance company will usually make you pay your deductible (mine is $500) not worth risking them trying something funny

I say this from a point of view where I basically have a target painted on my vehicle, I have had 5, 0% fault accidents in the past 10 years

I don't see Mercury calling me to ask me questions about the accident since they have already accepted fault. It's passed the point of any investigation. Even if they did ask, I'm not easy to talk to. There's no claim against my insurance, so I'm not paying anything.

What options does Jason have if they don’t total it?

Actually, which is better - totaled or repair?

I mean, resale value is gonna take a hit.

Might be able to seek compensation for the loss in value.

Sorry to hear @2BeersPlease but glad you are ok.

Frame is hosed in several places so it would have to be a frame swap and it needs a new bed. I’d be shocked if it was not totaled.

The frame was my biggest concern.

You can bet that's what will happen. I have everything except the front bumper.

Maybe this is the universe telling me to keep the '04.

Might be a good idea to put out a feeler for a white bumper in partial trade for yours...
