Plenty of techs take the same course?? Youd be shocked at how many working at Toyota dealers dont even have it. We just let a guy go who's "Toyota certified". Of course they dont recognize ICAR? They arent affiliated but look at both information lots of the same info. Same as using All Data they compile thr information for you. OP if you want a good shop PM me we work with a shop out there that's attends quarterly meetings with us and they do great work and wont try and PDR dents that may need conventional repair.

Ok, so what I’m hearing is that an hour ago you didn’t even know that Toyota requires and provides hands on collision repair training to their certified shops...but now you’re telling me that plenty of techs take the same training? And that I-car training is the same as the training you knew nothing about?

And if alldata is the same as TIS, can you please educate me on the cadence which alldata updates their information when the service procedure is changed by the MFG. frequently that I formation is out of date.

I get it, you work at an independent shop. You are proud of the work you do. You think you are sufficiently trained and qualified to work on pretty much anything. There’s nothing wrong with any of that, but that doesn’t make it true.

I get it, you work at a dealership. You are proud of the work you do. You think you are sufficiently trained and qualified to work on Toyota's better than anyone. There’s nothing wrong with any of that, but that doesn’t make it true.

Dealer have technicians not mechanics. Techs replace parts - Mechanics look for the source of the fault. Two different skill sets.

Toyota collision shops around here don't have the best uh reputation for quality of work, ide check out independent shops maybe ask around and see if anyone you know has had work done at said shops.

@TurdTaco64 Just so you know, body shops often sub out dent removal to the paintless dent shops.

Cut out the middle man and just go paintless dent removal.

We do go for training on Toyotas not half by Toyota and we arent just one shop. We are well aware on how to fix vehicle properly. We dont think we are qualified to do the work the manufacturers have came in and certified us. You are right All Data doesnt update as quickly we do pay for TIS as well (;. Doesnt mean its not a good tool. And I wasnt aware Toyota held there own training! That's pretty awesome there is for sure training for there vehicles though. We get a lot of high end Lexus here in Dallas that just dont total cant go putting rails in without the proper training. For OPs needs i would stay away from dealers and MSOs but that's just me getting work in from dealers in our area.

I’m an engineer. Here’s my story... About 20 years ago, our < 1 year old civic was wide swiped. Went to a Honda dealer (jay honda, Cleveland) for repair. They botched the repair 4 times (poor body work, dust in paint, etc) and the car ultimatey went to another non Honda shop to be fixed correctly. The insurance company dumped the Honda dealer from their oat of shops, Honda ate the bill, and I learned to never, ever, ever trust a dealer body shop.

Training and accreditation’s don’t mean squat when the employees and management aren’t motivated for meeting a moderate level of quality.

I work in a Body shop and we farm out our PDR work and we're normally around a week or two out after a storm.

Went to Caliber with mine (through Farmer’s) after last June’s hail (for both the taco and my fiancee’s impreza), was impressed by the quality of work on both.
Something that I realized coming out of it - Caliber has no reason to skimp on the repair monetarily, since they just have to go back to Farmers to cover any additional costs. Both repairs went thousands over the estimates, and Farmers didn’t bat an eye, just paid it.

I saw a '19 Off Road in Barcelona Red with the specific options I wanted in the showroom at the Greeley dealer. The Ft Collins dealer didn't have one but they were the only Costco pricing dealer in the area so I had them check around for one. They traded for one at the Greeley dealer without all the options so they were going to add what I wanted. They told me that Greeley wouldn't release the one in the showroom. Of course the truck was delivered to Ft Collins on Friday afternoon. I called my salesman on Saturday and he informed me that every vehicle on their lot had hail damage from the evening storm, including mine. I took a look at it and it had dents in the hood and the roof. I told him that I didn't want the truck, repaired or not, so they refunded my deposit. The manager wasn't happy. I called Greeley and told them to hold the showroom truck as I was on the way out. Greeley matched the Ft Collins Costco price and gave me an additional $500 on my trade. I drove my new truck home Saturday afternoon. With every vehicle on their lot having hail damage, I imagine the Ft Collins body shop has quite a backlog. I really feel sorry for them as they can't sell the vehicles and no other dealer will trade with them.

I took mine to my dealerships collision center for repairs. It's ICAR gold and has pretty decent reviews so hopefully they do a good job.

Initially i went to caliber collision and it seemed like they didnt want the work. They told me their PDR guy was out and it would take too long to repair. I told them it was okay since i was going out of state for work. They then told me since I need a new roof that a toyota dealer would be able to get the parts easier or something and they started recommending other shops to take it to. It all seemed a bit weird to me.

If you can't show receipts that it was repaired after the first claim, the insurance company won't pay out if it gets hailed out again. At least, that's what the shop I went to told me.
