Hell yes! Yah most people actually report better mpgs because the truck maintains speed. Supposedly depending on how you drive the truck sips fuel better because it stays at speed and isn’t fluctuating so much in the rpm band. Power to weight ratio

@OVTune I’ve got the underdog racing development spec -u exhaust “took the late 2 cats off” what tune should I go with? I want the 93 octane set up. And also have a drop in KnN filter.

Wasn’t sure if there is a specific tunes that have removed two of the four cats exhaust systems. I kno his dump tubes tune are different than the normal 93 tune. If I’m not mistaken. @OVTune

Could be totally wrong that’s why I’m asking.

Why? I get 18-19mpg without gears towing my pontoon boat. I get over 23 mpg when I drive normal on long trips. Gears help the engine not work as hard. These trucks are already heavy stock.

why? speaking for myself, because i run stock size tires, an open exhaust, run pretty light (no major armor just sliders and a skid), and i basically never see over 20. in fact i have to work hard for 20 and i drive it like a grandma's golf cart to see 20 and still can't reliably reproduce it. then some dude tows some shit and gets easily over 20. i am not doubtful, but it is weird. otherworldly inconsistency in these Tacomas.

the AT guys have that 0.58 6th gear with the 3.909 rear. We in the MT camp have 0.71 and 4.3. That probably accounts for a majority of the difference. Of course terrain, and ability to maintain cruising speed for long periods of time help too.

Yes and no? The AT guys struggle to get into 5th and 6th gears. For me with FOB, I can be rocking 6th at around 35mph while going uphill at part throttle (no lugging).

But like @St.Germain said, we have wild inconsistencies. I just had a wild experience seeing that on @17trdoffroadbel 's Taco.

I'm lovin' FOB too. Got a trip a across the PA turnpike coming up. I'm anxious to see how she fairs. Word is, FOB doesn't like the elevation changes. I'm thinking the return trip, heading west, on the long hill climb past sidling hill rest stop will be the true test.

Okay, man. The peak registers at just under 1,800ft ASL? :D I know the highest road elevation in PA was near where I grew up at about 2,200ft. I could be wrong, but that kind of altitude should not change anything for you. It will be interesting to hear your thoughts though.

Myself, I don't think that I have been through any of our passes yet. That might be a good enough excuse to get out and test? :D It has been an odd fucking year so far.

I guess I worded that a little weird. I have read a few posts where FOB did not like climbing. I am guessing it's not necessarily the air density and all, as much as the load on the engine from the climb and whatever gear your in at the time.

    Ah! I get you.

On my unicorn, no problems there. The stock tunes didn't mind long climbs either. The one oddity that I have is after a long downhill coast, the throttle response get soft until I get on it a couple more times. It's like it got used to not having any fuel.

I'll keep a head's up for that. This will be my first trip on FOB with long up and down hill sections.

MPGs - Depends which part of the country you live and driving style, time of year, etc.

I had a new v6 sedan for the first 5k got 26-28 in az and the second 5k dropped to 22 in nc.
