3rd Gen - Rear Drum Brakes???

Drums are lame. I’m getting a Jake brake installed tomorrow

 

Drums are the best, im about to do a drum swap for the front. fuck discs nothing but nonsense

 

I'm guessing you never drove a GMC Jimmy or Chevy Blazer then... constant issues with the rear brake design and both of them I owned had to have the internal parking brakes REMOVED. Of course... they're GM products. I guess I ended my own argument. Glad to have a Tacoma now!

 

Test after test have proven disc stop better, where are you getting that they don't. Once brakes get hot the braking they do start to fade and the hotter they get the worse they get just another advantage of disc brakes.

Next thing you know someone is going to throw a tantrum about how their parents can even vouch for the quality of discs over drum.

If someone really thinks rotors are going to enhance their life, sell your Tacoma and beat it the fuck outta here.

 

I haven’t bought a 2024 Tacoma yet but I already hate it.

Based on my figures the same make and model with drums gives me .610 g’s @ 20mph, with discs, .592. Both passing...yet...

It isn’t simply “discs=better”

 

Tested one stop to one stop, there is no functional difference. Fade is the point where the difference shows and brake fade in the rear is not something a typically passenger car or small pickup will ever experience. Brake fade in the front is incredibly common which is why the requirement for front disc came into play.

 

Toyota doesn’t like to fix what’s not broken. The brakes on the 3rd gen are sensitive asf when compared to my 07. I seriously almost gave the car salesman whiplash when I test drove one. I just recently installed new front pads on the 07, so drum brakes or not there is a major difference in stopping power.

 

Biff was a big drum brake guy.

Wow, didn’t think I was going to cause a huge shitstorm. I was simply stating I was surprised to see it.
I’m well aware of the advantages and disadvantages of drum or disc. I wasn’t shit talking the Tacoma, I was just quite surprised to see that it didn’t have discs on all four corners. Nothing more, nothing less.
