If i didn't have full coverage on my 1st gen it would have put me right around that, but I 100% feel like my money spent there buys me ease when I have had to deal with a claim,\
I use to have a local agent I worked with but his daughter got into a school back in Texas and that was all of the motivation he needed to get out of California

I decline the rental car part of my insurance because I usually have three cars. But right now my third car is not road worthy. I might need to add it back in. Or maybe it’s not worth it. I’ll look into it.

 

Your value maybe higher mine was valued at 22k and they totaled it. That's not including tailgate bed and bumper and 3rd gen probably higher then 2nd gen.

 

Don't have the bank roll to do that, but would be fun.

This event reminded of a fellow TW member who dropped a ton of cash on his new 2016 TRDOR only to wreck it at the end of 2016. At least my situation isn't this bad. His insurance totaled it. His airbags deployed though. He was able to remove everything before it was sent to the salvage yard.

This is fucking bullshit man! You should be thinking of how your going to wheel your truck and where you're going to go camping next.

Not worrying about how/when/where you're going to strip it before the tow truck comes... or if it gets totaled, how far in the hole it's gunna leave you... or whether or not you'll be down a truck for 4 weeks while a couple of pimple faced knuckleheads swap everything over to a new frame.

I'm hoping not dealing with air bags will bring the repair estimate way down. A cursory search for frames shows they run around $4900.

 

I do have a backup truck.

 

Unfortunately it's not the cost of the frame... It's the $100 an hour the shop is going to charge for each of the 2 slapdicks that will dink around on it for a week or two, that costs so much.

 

With the labor is was around 13k if I remember right.

 

Yep but that's a cheap labor rate.

 

I debated swapping frames for a long while. After hearing what the average labor hr it took from the guys swapping out rusty frames I decided cheaper and faster to chop weld and make it a play truck. Even if your paying a fab guy to do it it was cheaper then the swap.
