Yeah I've even shown her pics online of long haired tabby's just like hers, but he'll always be a Maine Coon in her eyes haha

It's like doing a 23&Me test and learning that you're actually not what you thought you were your entire life, so you just ignore it and keep believing what you want lol

They are hard to find for adoption. Lynx is also only an indoor cat. I got him here in CT and went through a breeder. Range from $900-1500 here. A lot of breeders also show their cats. Only good thing with a breeder is I know where he came from for 10+ generations so hopefully no medical issues. A lot of breeders also require them to be spade/neutered by a certain time to stop any breeding. Maine Coons are slow maturing cats so I’m waiting until he is 8-9 months to get neutered to allow him maximum growth. They are full grown around 3-4yrs. They do eat a lot more than a normal cat due to their size haha and I try to feed him quality food or raw sometimes so that can get expensive. Right now he is 7.5 months and weighs 12.1 lbs. Stretched out from paw to paw he is around 47” long. Super playful and fluffy. Definitely a cuddler. If my wife would allow I’d have another so he has a friend but she’s not an animal fan. She wasn’t happy when I told her we were going to pick him up when told the breeder yes before asking haha. She’s slowly falling in love I think though

Tell Tale Sings of a Maine Coon:

    1) Larger than normal tufts of fur coming from their ears.
    2) "Pointed" fur pointing up from the tips of their ears.
    3) Fur between the pads of their paws. Some other breeds have this, but with Coons its extensive.
    4) The length of their tail is the same length as the rest of their body.
    5) Their mouth is more pronounced than a standard cat.
    6) Their long fur lays flat on their body and tail.

Many folks misidentify Maine Coons, especially as kittens.

Personality wise, they are generally easy going and just a giant bundle of affection who demand. They do tend to play with water, whether it be their water dish, the sink, or the shower, they love playing with it. It is also not uncommon for Coons to play fetch with their favorite toys.

Agree with the above. He loves to turnover and play with his water dish which can be a mess at times. Brushing my teeth and he’s right there with me playing in the sink. Pops his head in while I shower too. He also likes to play fetch with his feather ball. Surprisingly doesn’t shed that much. I try to brush him daily. My wife sheds more but when he does it’s usually a small tuft laying on the floor.

I appreciate the feedback, everyone. I didn't realize they took several years to fully mature. I can't say I've seen a purebred Maine Coon in person, but have met plenty of mixed breeds and they've all been awesome cats. Growing up, our furballs were indoor/outdoor, which is what I would prefer, but living in the denser populated area of Seattle there's way too much traffic where I'm currently located (surrounded by two avenues and one hwy) . I would worry about theft as well (if I got a pure MC). Lol, keep the hope alive that the wife will come 'round and you guys can get him a friend.

A little something every chance we get.
Thanks to you all for the kind messages. Tomorrow AM it will be done. It's been somewhere between 18-20 years, and obviously I won't have pix for that. Old boy was at one point a 21 pound "kind bully"-"get out of my yard". At some point, he lost a leg to a fence, my State Trooper neighbor rescued him, and helped get him between two vets for an amputation. That leg weighed 7 lb! And he was still a thug on our property. He has watched our two boys grow up. He helped me with outdoor projects, and met me at the door coming home from work. He sat in every lap, and held us down so "we couldn't do whatever, because cat". He perfected aloof. He got stoopid for Christmas catnip. He's been the best dog a cat lover could ever have.
I'll leave the painful why to because it's just time. Here's some dumb pics.

OK, I am a terrible storer of photos, and this laptop doesn't like to make it easy.
If I worked on something outside - he was there - supervising. Power tools, no problem.
I'm really going to miss this dog.

It’s really is quite amazing what these little guys can do for us all the while we think we’re rescuing them. They can help heal the soul in so many ways but the heart ache from having to say good bye is almost inconsolable. You had some amazing years with him and his job here is done. Yours however isn’t. There will be another cat that will find its way into your heart and you’ll love it just as much but just a little different. Your kitty will be in good company and will be looked after by a bunch of amazing kitties that we’ve all had to say good bye to. Hang in there. Believe it or not each day will get a little better and at some point you’ll find yourself smiling while thinking about him.

Juno doing a bit of sun and napping. Life is tough.

Hard to believe she's the same very sick little kitten that weighed less than 2lbs....that the humane society gave us for free last October.
