so a lady backed into me in a parking lot. Nothing too crazy, super low speed. Her insurance made me get an estimate through their app, send photos, Vin etc. I was originally planning on putting the cash towards principal, just because the trail pinstripes I have currently stick out more than the tiny bump. My dilemma is it was only 700$, which, don't get me wrong, is a fair amount towards principal, but not THAT much and honestly seems like a low-ball estimate. I'm thinking I should just take it to a body shop and let them get it sorted and throw in a couple extra hundred for some PDR (few door dings) and maybe some other miscellaneous "tune-ups". What say you TW? Just lookin for some other perspectives I haven't considered yet. Pics for reference. You can see some scuffs, small paint removal and a dent

In Texas. The insurance company can not make you use their estimate . You have the right to take to your personal body shop and get an estimate and the adjuster goes there and goes over it with your shops manager.

I wouldn’t even consider allowing an app to be used for a claim. Tell them you are going to get a few local quotes from shops in your area.

They will also lowball the estimate. When you take it in, the shop will quote you at $1100 and the insurance will pay the diff. They lowball that first so you don’t, take the money and run.

My thought was, they low ball you in hopes that you run. Which is why I was considering just taking it in and taking what I can get from the legal extortionists. Then throw some extra bux on top and everyone wins

I bought a dent puller kit on Amazon for $30 when I dented my truck and it worked pretty darn well

    LS1 swap with nitros.
At minimum both doors will be color matched, cleared, and new emblem and black window vinyl will be added. That’s an easy $1500 job all day long.

Bummer. If you step back from it all for a moment, isn’t it nuts that this small dent and some scuffs on a $35,000 truck is a $1,000 repair?

If someone did this to my truck and gave me $700 cash, I’d probably suction it myself and dress the scuffs with the OEM paint pen and “buff it out.” It wouldn’t be perfect, but I could live with that. The leftover cash would go toward fuel on my next trip(s) to the mountains, or maybe just get sent to a non-profit that tries to make the world a better place. That’s my perspective.

Had the same problem, got rear ended, bumper cover got destroyed, her insurance ( progressive) offered the app thing, first offer was $1500, I declined and escalated with a supervisor using a counter offer from the Toyota dealership, got offered $2000, took the second offer, installed a metal bumper for around $900.

Get an estimate from a body shop. Her insurance is low balling you in hopes you take the cash and run.

You dictate where this goes, not them. Tell them that you want them to pay you and you will take care of it.

If you don't fully use the insurance money to repair the damage, it will affect resale/trade-in value. Mickey Mouse repairs are quite noticeable to trained eyes.
