3rd gen audio build - Joying tacoma headunit

I’ll try and mark it but @5nahalf is the pioneer here. So far
Remove dash trim and take out the 4 10mm bolts



After that disconnect everything until the radio looks like this. From there you will plug everything in except these wires




Now plug everything in. Cables you should have are these.one is main wiring harness and the other is USB cord.


RIN AND Lin are aux I believe. The you need to test the reverse camera as there are two rcas labeled and only one works. That plugs back into the wiring harness.usb goes to the usb wire that plugs into brown usb harness.




Then plug the gps and 4g antenna in. I put these under the dash like @5nahalf suggested. I’ll update after I do mounting brackets but these are measurements from scosche kit




Right now I am going to take off half inch and see where I am at so I’ll update it later tonight. It’s over 100 out right now. Wireless Apple play does work. You hook up Bluetooth and then WiFi between the two and click z link


Here we go, half inch off on each side got it to fit. Soon I’m going to mess around with the software more but it works. I don’t see any issues with the fit so that’s solved for now. Big shout out at @5nahalf . Really appreciate everything, this system is more then I could have hoped for

Nice write up on it! When it comes down to it, pretty much everything is plug and play, you just need to guess which plug sometimes (backup camera)

 

Absolutely, a little confusion here and there but it’s all straight forward. Only thing now is the mounts. Before I go any further I should ask if your cool on what’s above, I don’t want to hijack the thread at all.

How does the wireless car play work? As in how do you set that up?

 

Basically you have the option of wired or wireless with the z link. Any time it after setup if it detects Apple it will auto start. First is hook it up through Bluetooth then connect to it through WiFi after that your golden.

 

Just pulled the trigger on this, the scosche brackets, and a front camera. Looking forward to getting it all hooked up! Great write ups here, thanks for all the information.

Does xm work

 

It does not have a XM module, but you can download the XM app for android and should be able to use that.

Hmm my experience is if you live anywhere near the mtns it is xm is not worth having at all.

 

Does android auto support wireless connectivity? I'd love to get my phone off the dash and down onto the qi charging pad.

 

That I don’t know. Problem is I don’t have a android device to test it on. Family all has apple. I don’t care for Apple but the reality is with photo share, FaceTime, find my friends, and everything it’s just easier to be on the same ecosystem. Also I didn’t know this device had apple wireless. I didn’t see it on website, Just found out when trying to connect via zlink. That said @5nahalf I think is android. I’m waiting to figure out how the SIM card bands go for him.

Nope never had an issue with Satilite but I'm at 7500ft. Cell service is spotty in the passes. I like what your doing tho
