Help new guy diagnose Tacoma

Hi all, new guy here just bought a Tacoma.

1stgen 3.4L Supercharged

I pulled the plugs (Denso IK22 Iridium) to see if they need to be replaced. From the looks of it i think they might be a sign of a deeper problem.

The side electrode looks like part of it melted off. And there is clearly oil on the plugs.

Truck is only running the supercharger with no fuel mods. I also get slight knocking at idle occasionally and on hills.

What should i do?

 

Detonation Damage: This plug condition indicates that your engine timing is off and you probably need a tune-up. Another possibility is that the gasoline you're using does not have a high enough octane rating.

 

I'm running 91 octane and i think the timing is about right because the truck passed smog.

 

Your timing can still be off and pass smog. Running too advanced will make it run hot, detonate, and melt plugs. Using the wrong heat rated plugs will make the ground melt too.
Check your timing and make sure, or just keep running it with the knock and see what happens

I believe oem is Denso 16 (dual electrode) 90919-01192 (K16TR11).

I am running Denso 22, 2 ranges cooler.

 

Thanks. The BKR7E-11 appear to be the same as the Denso IK22. 2 ranges cooler than oem and single electrode. Aren't much different?

 

Thanks, those are not too expensive so i will try them out and see what happens.

 

No fuel mods, just supercharger. But after some research, it looks like there is a lot more work involved in getting this thing running right.
