I've always been OK with my bone stock 2016 3.5, I don't expect a midsize slightly out of date pick-up to be a race car.

The OV Tune crowd make some wild ass claims "stock is junk, but after OV Tune it's like a completely different vehicle" I get it, people exaggerate often, not because they are liars but because they are excited, happy, etc. So, I've been hesitant to spend $800 since the stock engine is fine and I have suspected I won't be as thrilled as some over a 10 HP boost and may or may not agree with driveability improvements.

But now that I see the OV Tune crowd was actually holding back a little, I'm ordering the kit. It's even more impressive than they said...68,000 RPM!!! I can't wait!!!

All kidding aside, a lot of dedication and hard work to satisfy customers by OV Tune.

Fuel Pressure stays above 2500 PSI during long, high load pulls. (2nd gear - highway - 68000 RPM)

Yeah, both engines have nearly the same torque, only difference is a few hundred rpm

The 3rd gen sounds great except for the engine and transmission

This is largely due to dumbasses that have never even driven one having diarrhea of the mouth.

I had a 2nd gen with the 4.0 and I can't remember it doing any better than my 19 now. Yes it does get sluggish occasionally in city traffic when I drive it easy it can seek for the best gear and I recall the 2nd gen doing the same. But It's not a big deal for me personally. If I want this truck to go it will get up and go for sure. I have to say 750 to 800 bucks for a tune and cable is steep to me. My truck has all the modes already that I need to drive how ever I want truck to perform.

Same HP but, as you note, the torque delivery is different. The 4.0l produces more low-end grunt, which is really apparent when accelerating from a stop with a load or up an incline. The 3.5l produces really good power higher up in the RPM band, which is really apparent when driving at highway speeds.

Both engines are good, but each offers slightly different characteristics. I personally would've preferred to see Toyota retune and work the 4.0l for the new Tacoma (direct + port injection) instead of going with the 3.5l, but at the end of the day the new engine gets the job done. Naturally aspirated gasoline v6's are meant to offer sufficient power while getting okay mpg's. If you want more power, get a turbo gasoline or v8.

Not really my tranny sucked and couldn’t decide when to downshift. One of the worst vehicles I’ve ever had due to the transmission. It’s definitely livable but gets old quick when it revs up to 4000rpm and just stays there until your break hard or try to accelerate even faster. Traded it in for a 2006 Tundra.

If Toyota would have reworked the 4.0 we'd probably just have .5L more of what we have now and slightly worse economy. Whoever got the AT would still have the same transmission issues.

The 4.0l is a bit different from the 3.5l...it makes better low-end torque, but it runs out of steam on the top end of the RPM band. The fuel economy gains could've been applied to the 4.0l by updating it (direct and port injection and part-time atkinson cycle).

The AT does have some issues...the 3.5l's lack of low-end torque compounds those issues.

Those numbers could be result of the "dump tubes" and not the OV Tune.

(IDK. I'm just trolling. I'll stop now.)
