Are these worth the time to install? Thinking about a set and would like some feedback from others who have used them. Thanks in advance...

I know a bunch of guys with them and it's on my short list for making the truck more user friendly. One guy has had them for like 4+ yrs and not one bit of trouble.

Hood shocks wear out eventually (on other cars that come with them)
especially if you're a DIY'er constantly opening the hood to work on the car,
versus the average person who never works on their car/neglects it and thus never opens the hood

Seems like it may be an additional wear point but I may be wrong. It's not cheap for shocks, but then again it's also mounting brackets.
I thought the point of switching to a Toyota of all brands was for reliability, and the simplicity of a metal hood rod seemed to be exactly that (it won't wear out) - but I don't know.

I have 'em. Wish I would have got them as soon as I got the truck. My vote is get em...the sooner the better.

I have had mine for at least 5 years and open my hood many times weekly. Original equipment and still work great even in cold weather. Can't say the same for the 2 sets of snugtop versions for my shell glass. Those won't hold up the glass at all in colder weather after a few months. And it gets that hood support rod out of the way. Well worth it

If you’re not a DIY person and don’t open hood much, you probably won’t see the benefit of having the hood lift kit but the most of TW will agree how good this mod is including myself.

I had them on my 2nd gen and loved them. Install was easy. A nice added benefit is the struts open your hood wider than if you were using the prop. Do it, you won’t regret it.

I’ve had mine for about 8 years with zero problems. So nice not to have the bar in front when changing oil, doing spark plugs, and other work. I’d buy them again in a minute.

Agreed, they weren’t engineered into the truck and will place additional stress into places it was never designed for. The fenders could bend, the hinges could bend, the struts themselves pose an additional risk to first responders who have been injured and killed by them, and Toyota will tell you to pound sand if any damage results from installation. Imagine having your fenders bend or the hood bend and Toyota says “tough luck”...

How much time are these guys spending with the hood raised that they can’t manually lift the thing?

Killed, not directly reported as the initial cause of death which I can find immediately. I know this was a serious issue during training 15 years ago and they stated that a firefighter was killed in the line of duty in the USA with this, there’s been first responders seriously injured and hundreds of close calls.

Damaged because of aftermarket equipment installed that’s not engineered for and denied claims over? Absofuckinglutely

Yes, and first responders dying isn’t a laughing matter.

    https://www.firerescue1.com/near-mi...018-Exploding-vehicle-struts-A-hidden-hazard/

“During a live vehicle fire training event at the county fire training grounds, two gas struts exploded, sending a projectile approximately 95 feet from the vehicles being used for the training. ... We found a piece of the strut that holds the rear hatch of a minivan located behind the engine approximately 95 feet from the training vehicle. … The potential for injury was extensive.”

    https://youtu.be/lAdrwbXrw1Y

    https://youtu.be/rgmfTKLH5Nw

“Many auto manufacturers recommend using insulated tools for overhaul and staying away from gas struts or cylinders that can explode under high heat."

They are dangerous and deadly, this has been known about for 30+ years but the vehicle manufacturers still use them.
