Yeah that makes sense your out of the passes. I got rid of xm due to this and I tend to drive a lot of long distances and found it wasn't worth it as it just repeats.

Spotify and podcasts do it for me now

Ok, so I couldnt figure out how to wireless android auto, but I did call my mother in florida with the hands free thing. Using the mic on the faceplate of the headunit she says its clearer than when I use the actual phone. Hearing her was a little weird, but I blame that on the subwoofer and how my door woofers are tuned.

I ended up installing this head unit today. Everything is functioning with the exception of the rear speakers (when I use the EQ to pan the balance toward the rear all sound disappears). Has anyone encountered this issue or know how to address? I connected the wiring harness to with all corresponding factory plugs. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like you forgot 1 plug. There is a single plug with green and purple wires on it, this controls the rear speakers.

started spraying sound deadener into the back of the truck today, Going to be doing the floor in stages so I can keep it as functional as possible while working on it. First is the back wall, then I will do the drivers floor/rear seat, then passenger floor/rear seat. I also ordered more noico to do the firewall with.
I did one thick coat today, I will do another coat tonight, then a third coat in the morning.

All done with the area behind the seat, got 3 coats on there, I put it all back together while the coating was still tacky/wet this should stop any of the clips I put back in from rattling.

Tomorrow im going to pull up the storage bin under the seat and do that part.

Tonight I am cutting the Part of the drivers side rear cubby, I need to build and install a false wall like this one so I can mount the amps behind the panel. These people installed a 5 channel JL amp back there, I will be putting my 3 audio control amps there (for now) Till I can find a good 9 channel replacement setup.

In the picture I have the right plug attached with purple and green wires for the rear speakers. There is a second plug, with green and purple wires, that has no way to attach to any of the trucks attachments. I believe these are spliced from the same source. Still no audio in the rear speakers. Where am I going wrong? Everything else is working great with this one exception. Thank you!

W/ JBL or W/O JBL? That looks like the one I left un plugged but I can go take a look today to validate. I just ask since you seem to have seat heaters and dual climate control which I think means JBL. My write up didn’t cover JBL so it might be different also might take a multimeter to make sure each wire is in its place.

That’s correct. I have JBL, dual climate control, and heated seats. I ended up with the same plugs unattached as your install photos. All the connections seems to be solid too.

JBL may be a issue as the jbl system gets its signal a different way than the non-jbl. I think with the JBL system it gets sound signal from 2 channels, but uses a digital signal to split it in the amp. This may be a case where you will need to buy a 5 channel amp to replace the factory amp, just RCA cables back to the new amp, then just cut and splice the wires coming out of the factory amp.

I really appreciate the responses. I didn't realize the JBL setup would give me such a headache. I spent most of the afternoon combing through various threads and can't seem to find a definitive answer. Is there any alternative way to use this aftermarket head unit with all stock speakers/sub/amp, at least in the interim until I can upgrade these features? Some sort of harness/adapter?

Yes maybe... but your going to need to go deep into the wire harness and its probably just not worth it if your going to put in aftermarket stuff later.

You will need a smart harness that can interface with the JBL amp. PAC RP4.2-ty11 or something like that. Check pac-audio.com to make sure that’s correct.

I started downloading some of my google play library, and got to thinking, that internal storage is going to fill up fast.... joying says 500gb max... ok, let me find a drive and a usb-sata adapter. Found one, but the adapter is corrupt as fuck, destroyed my desktop by killing my raid array :( so that should be fun to recover..

Ok, next plan find external drive... well I have this 2tb drive that I had been using for movies.... lets try it. The headunit reads all 2tb of the drive!

So, now I have my google play library downloading to the 2tb drive. I am going to put this drive under the dash by the drivers side, going to be nice to just download all the music I listen to instead of streaming it, and at 2tb I can download forever! I have youtube premium, and it comes with free google play music subscription.

Also, I have noticed the unit gets a bit on the warm side. Im going to pull it apart and cut a 40mm fan hole to keep it cool inside there. Cooler running android runs faster.

EDIT: so I did some searching on the xda forums, seems this chip has a 80mm x 40mm "heat spreader" on the chip. Im going to swing by the local microcenter and see if I can get some 40mm heatsinks to stick on there.

Good info, I should look at those heat spreaders. I would be reluctant to put a fan on as I know how dusty my truck gets...but I am curious about the temps.

The insane audio looks like a good option, sadly too many buttons, but good find!!! THe other one, just looks like shit IMO, but am sure it would appeal to the tesla loving crowd

For sure. Their website is fairly garbage as well. I somehow just got myself in a loop where I can't even get back to that headunit! It also looks like it uses their own launcher and such. Just sounds like more opportunities for errors. I wish the Insane Audio wasn't so expensive.
