Well, mileage doesn't really impact the screen as far as I know.

The stock JBL headunit in my 2012 took a shit a few months ago.

Any recommendations on what people are replacing them with? I'd like to keep the steering wheel controls.

You need the maestro control box to retain steering wheel controls. I replaced my stereo with the Kenwood Dnx996xr but there are many other less expensive headunits available. I used Crutchfield and purchased the wiring harness as well to simplify the installation.

You weren't kidding. They have a $200 mail in rebate and still over $1k!

    You pay: $1,399.00 (today)

    Mail-in Rebate: -$200.00

It is likely the most expensive option. You can probably get a replacement that'll do everything you need for half that. I wanted the nav, dvd, and wireless CarPlay and justified the cost when I compared it to what I'd spend if I ordered another OEM unit to replace my broken stereo.

Let me know if you need help, I’ve replaced my screen with aftermarket twice and have the maestro unit

I had a Pioneer NEX 4400 but I wanted wireless CarPlay so I upgraded to the Pioneer NEX 8400

Crutchfield and taco tunes are overpriced

Another cheaper option is buy a touchscreen from a parts truck or from someone upgrading

Crutchfield is neat if you need the help/advice, or occasionally if you'd need a decent bit of installation stuff and it's actually stuff they'll include... but most of the time the high dollar stuff isn't included, and on a high dollar unit I doubt you'd ever get/need enough to cover the price difference over cheaper places.

I've been on an Alpine kick for a long time (never has a unit die, upgraded one and lost a couple to totaling out cars) but I'm still rocking old school single DINs, I got no need or desire for fancy touchscreens.

Cheapest way (aside from maybe some off-brand) is probably a takeoff OE unit. You can add a little inline amp with a little work of you're happy with the interface and input options. They're line level (amplifying your already amplified speaker outputs) and aren't going to sound as great as other options, but it's relatively cheap & easy and will still sound good. Mine behind my Alpine with AFAIK factory speakers sounds damn good to me, I've never left speakers alone before... but I can't find a reason to mess with these yet.

@fb40dash5, depends on what you are buying. I shopped around quite a bit and couldn't find the HU cheaper anywhere else.
