Hello everyone! I’m new to Tacomaworld, I own an 07 taco with the 2.7l engine, a few years back I gave it to my younger brother as a grad gift but he mistreated it and blew the engine and abandoned it, I picked up again and after searching I found what I thought was a great deal on an used motor, it came from a 2017 Tacoma, now I’m not a mechanic or even close, I like to do a lot of my mods like my leveling kit or headlights and things of that nature but when it comes to the motor I don’t feel comfortable, so I had a family friend mechanic put the engine in and it works amazing only had 11,000 miles, my only issue now is bc of the years differences some of the sensors weren’t compatible but the one giving me problems right now is the camshaft position sensor, the connections aren’t the same so at the moment is disconnected so it has a hard time turning on. I don’t know what to do I bought the connectors but the one from my 07 engine only has two wires while the one from the 17 engine takes 3 wires is there anyway to make this compatible? Is it a computer issue? I hope I explained myself good enough and any help is greatly appreciated y’all!

When possible, you should swap the engine harness over, along with sensors that are mechanically the same. Then in theory, as long as they didn't drop any sensors (or actuators, or...) or make them both electrically & mechanically different, the ECU is 'dumb' to the fact it's running a wrong year engine.

It runs great if I leave it disconnected but if I connected it cranks on but if I try to accelerate it dies out, and with the new ECM it runs good as well and it’s also disconnected, I purchased a new connector and attempted to connect but still having the same issues so not sure if I just connected it wrong, the last thing I want to do is mess something up with the computer

Hi fb40dash5! I have tried that as well I purchased the connector but it still had trouble turning on so I figured I wired it wrong maybe

Besides having trouble turning on the truck runs great! What could happen if I keep using it like this?
