On the freeway at 75mph+ this truck sure likes it’s rpms...I’m assuming it’s because it doesn’t have a lot of low end torque? I’m gonna have to get used to this...

It has a lot of torque, 256ft/lbs!

The variable valve timing changes at 3800rpms and this engine Loves to rev! Don't lug it at low rpms.

That doesn't change Hp or Tq but makes the transmission hold the gear longer into higher revs.
Slap it into S Mode, aka Manual shift mode.

I just wish it had the ability to cruise at 80 and not rev out at any small incline. A quirk for sure.

S mode just caps the gear its in. S5 etc, means you wont go into 6th gear

Everything's a band aid for this engine/trans combo. Theres a turbo out now though if you have $2600 for parts.

You sure it doesn’t change the throttle action or something else as well as the shift points? I’d swear mine feels peppier right from a start with the ECT button on.....

I regularly cruise at 75-80 and it runs pretty smooth. Sure on a big hill it'll rev but so will a Vette.

Switches to higher Rpms between gear shifts. Better for towing but works just as good if you want a bit more oompf.

    Turbo is worth the money

Quick research would have discovered this issue on this Forum......Most people won't admit it but a quick perusal of this Forum would have enlightened you to that particular issue. It's rampant, However, if you want to make it better you will have to tune it...hence the 46K responses to the OVTUNE thread. The drivetrain is awful on this design, Hopefully, Toyota will offer a turbo and at least an 8 speed AT in the redesign.

    Research first THEN buy....

ECT is similar to "Tow Mode".
PC changes the electronic signal to from the pedal to the ECU.

ECT will sharpen throttle response some, as well as hold gears a little longer instead of shifting at 1200 rpm. Shifts at 1500-2000k. Does nothing for the huge amount of trans/throttle lag. Ovtune helps a bit I heard, but you still have the lag. The problem is the truck tries to stay at the lowest rpm possible at all times, so when you hit the throttle it will downshift multiple times before it moves and then shift every 200 rpm while accelerating. Won't hold gears at all accelerating unless your foots into it. What's weird, is this motor is in a few other vehicle's and feels the worst in the taco.
