I didn't have to pay duty but I did have to pay taxes. I don't remember the details other than it was more than 500 bucks....

Please keep us posted. I'm definitely interested in how this plays out.... Sent from inside my GFC right now.

Get the extra door. I got mine before it was an option and now I'm upgrading.

Absolutely get the extra door! I open it up every time. I get better airflow and a better view. There isn’t a disadvantage.

Should just be GST from my research.

We’re from Alberta so it should be 5%. Montana is also a sales tax free state so that’s also beneficial.

Any Canadians know if you pay GST/HST on the location you live, or where you cross the border? Crossing into BC will be a lot more expensive than Sweetgrass if that’s the case!

Nice guess I'll make the trip over to berta. Hit some ski hills on the way. That is if it comes in on schedule.

I think it’s definitely worth it. I have no desire to climb in through the bed of the truck, or have to close up the back of the truck to set up a ladder, when I can have my ladder set up on the side door and still have full use of the tailgate and access to the bed from the rear and passenger sides. Plus the ladder is super easy to move if you need to open the driver side panel for anything. I also have found it to be convenient to have the ladder for other things like setting up a clothesline or climbing on it to access stuff on the roof instead of trying to balance on a tire.

Yeah I can understand that point, I elected not to get it personally, just seemed unnecessary and like more parts to potentially fail, but I'm starting to think I might have made the wrong decision lol.

I guess I never imagined needing to get up there unless I'm going through the bottom or climbing up from the tailgate/bumper.

Having a panoramic view and more ventilation isn’t a bad thing either lol

Hey, maybe not the best thread but I figured I’d test the waters. Thinking of selling my 2016 TRD OR with GFC. I was one of the first customers so you’ve seen my rig. Anyways, gonna sell it as a package with goal of moving to a full size.

    Thinking $45k all in.

    Thoughts?

I offered him $4900 or something close to that and he said that people were willing to pay 8k

I was confused but then realized...#overlandtax

I think you’d have a much easier time selling them separate. A bank won’t finance $45k for a used Tacoma and most buyers don’t have that kind of cash laying around. I’d try it as a package but also list prices for each individually since that will probably wind up being asked a lot and a more likely way they will sell.

If people were offering 8k then I wonder why it isn’t sold.

How do they know at the border that your camper is new? Can’t you just go through a different crossing coming back?

Yep. But is it worth it? I cross the border several times a month at MINIMUM and weekly sometimes. It's not worth getting dinged, fined, and my Nexus card revoked.

I certainly thought about it and honestly I think the woman at the booth was about to wave me on when I declared. But for a few hundred bucks it wasn't worth jeopardizing my ability to easily cross the border and potentially have criminal charges pressed.

They do take pix when you cross you know.

And if you do 'risk it'. Make sure you don't have any communications on your phone or paperwork in your car. They can and WILL search both. Ask me how I know...

Sure, but I’d rather import officially, especially as it would be crossing back and forward a lot.

They also specifically ask if you had had any vehicle modifications done or accessories installed, so I’d be outright lying. Rather pay the $450CAD to import it.

I couldn’t find anything definitive on my question, but there was some information that suggests customs collect HST for provinces that have it, on top of the GST. Seemed to suggest it was dependent on residence, so if you’re not in Alberta you may still have to pay...

Can anyone with a GFC ladder for the side door post a close-up pic showing how it connects to the extrusion. I just bought my own 3rd party ladder and want to fashion some sort of hook or bracket for it, based on GFC’s design. Thanks.

Who did I see driving south through Yellowstone with a Sandstone tacoma and a black GFC? I was stoked I hadn't seen one out in the world with my own eyes yet.
