Another Tacoma driver told me I'm supposed to use premium gas

    This message is coming via blackberry, just pulled out the the shell station after i was filling my truck with regular, someone else in a tacoma pulled up and told me i was suppose to put premium in there, is that true?

    Seeing the third gen section forced me to get a Ford...
    not unless you have a supercharger. all the manuals spec the taco's on regular and older 2nd gen manuals stated that you could get minor performance gains running premium

    I run 89 and it does great, 93 for anything that puts stress on the truck such as towing, hauling, etc.

    Manual says regular...if the engine isn't tuned for premium, why waste the money? The computer will just retard the timing and/or adjust the air/fuel ratio effectively undoing any benefit you'd expect from premium. The only benefit I could think of is a cleaner burn and less knocking.

    No...The manuals say "Best performance is achieved useing 91 oct. fuel".

    I use regular and have had no issues in daily driving. If I were to tow something heavy I would consider putting in a higher octane.

    this is from an 07 manual....

    OCTANE RATING
    Select Octane Rating 87 (Research Octane
    Number 91) or higher.​
    Use of unleaded gasoline with an Octane
    Rating lower than 87 may result in engine
    knocking. Persistent knocking can lead to
    engine damage.​
    If your engine knocks...​
    If you detect heavy knocking even when
    using the recommended fuel, or if you
    hear steady knocking while holding a
    steady speed on level roads, consult your
    Toyota dealer.
    However, occasionally, you may notice
    light knocking for a short time while accelerating
    or driving up hills. This is normal​
    and there is no need for concern.
