Yeah, you're not alone with stupidity. I shot a hole through the refrigerator, through the kitchen cabinets. A broken lamp maybe you can explain, but a bullet hole through the side of the fridge and through the fridge door and into the cabinets, no.

I like collapsible fish baskets. Toss the fish in then throw the basket out on the end of a stringer. You can swap out smaller for larger as you please.

 

My brother uses one of those, but when you are catching fish 4 to 6 pounds... they dont always all fit.

 

Decided to stop here for a bit and see how the fishing is.

Yeah, and that goes double for trout.
Try to keep them alive as long as you can.
If you're gonna be out for long, bring a cooler with ice in it.

I've cooked fish that died before I could do anything with them.
It almost doesn't matter at that point how long they were dead before you cleaned and iced them.
The meat is gonna be mushy and off tasting.

 

Carry two or three baskets. They don't take up much room, weigh about 1lb.

 

Problem is most need to swim to keep water flowing over the gills. When they get that big they cant, they just float belly up after about a hour or 2. Catfish is the only thing that will survive that long in those conditions.

That's one good thing about fish, they have no idea how much you paid for that shiny thing swimming by them.
