I'm not so sure. Thinking about oil lines and all that. Probably easier to leave the People's Republic and move to some place without those kind of restrictions, yeah? :)

I converted my 2rz Tacoma back to stock in a few hours when it was turboed.

The 5vz might take a little longer, but should probably be converted back every now and then for maintenance alone.

It's really not that complicated to undo once you've installed it. And a turbo has so much more going on that you're gonna remember how it went together, I can assure you of that.

From what I’ve read 5VZ exhaust manifolds are something you only want to do once.

It's the cross-over pipe that gets you. I think they say you're supposed to drop your tranny to remove it. I cut mine off when I went turbo and didn't have to drop the tranny for the turbo cross-over because it has a flex joint in it. If I ever go back stock, I'm buying headers and welding a flex into them though.

You can just unbolt the tranny mount and jack it up from the rear a bit. Should slip out after that.

I could weld something up faster that would just slip out and be future proof from then on out. However, that's still good knowledge to have if I'm not feeling the fabrication that day.

Without derailment of thread point, that “law” is nation wide in various forms, it is supposed to keep people from running underground businesses.

You can still work on vehicles registered and owned by you, just not your buddies, and you can not do things like motor swaps, and body work. Simple stuff, oil n filter, s plugs, air filter.... been there done that when I lived in CA... pull the vehicle in the garage and shut the door is how you get around it. What others can’t see they can’t report.

Back to the regularly scheduled program...

    OP, don’t use cheap turbos.

Make sure the turbo is a good mfg like Banks.

Weak ass turbos cause more headaches than they are worth.

If you are dead set on a turbo, ditch the air charged inter cooler and run a liquid intercooler. Increase. In boost and consistent charge are good things, the cooling rate also stays lower which helps preserve the engine.

That’s exactly why I’m taking mine to a shop for the headers.

Awesome info here. first off, I don't have to get a smog check, registered in fl - military
second I'm going to hold of for supercharger - seems easier

Get one of those electric superchargers. They're universal and require 0 fab to install. You just take it right out of the box and throw it away. Anyone can do it and it only takes a minute!

I got flunked on a Ca smog for running a Magnaflow cat!! It was even carb legal.. Went and spent 1k for a stock Toyota cat and passed at another smog shop. I went a half year later to the same spot to smog my Subie and they were pissed that I flunked and went to their spot to redo it as the first smog place was cheaper but ran by Nazi’s, long story short the place that passed me was pissed as a random referee came to their shop and questioned the shit out of them (family friends business). The worst is my motorcycle dyno tuner said the smog ref brought him his Harley with all smog blocked off and got a tune, my tuner was not amused as they can get away with it on their vehicles, Commifornia!?!

Me too! Let’s go weld some stainless to some T-6 aluminum heads. Should work perfectly, lmao..
