How is your acceleration and stopping? I’m thinking about a road tire ( Michelin Defenders) at this size. I got some Nitto terra 2s at 265/70/17 and the acceleration, braking and noise is making go another direction. But want to make sure they fit. Thanks for any information.

I’m on method NVs 255/85r16. Every time I go out I scratch up my wheels. Never really had this issue with wider tires

scratching your wheels...and scraping your sidewall...too wide a rim and too narrow a x-section.

Sawbladeduller, I think you nailed it. My conclusion is that a 8 inch wide rim is to wide for Offroad use with a 255 tire. Granted I do more than just fire roads or gravel roads. Thinking about selling the 255s off for a 285 now.

It's definitely noticeable at altitude and going up hills but I have the 6mt so can just downshift when needed. I like the added overdrive on the highway so I'm not looking to regear at this point. I can cruise at 60mph at 2000rpm.

I'm sure its covered in here somewhere but just want to make sure before I pull the trigger on new tires. Will a 255/85 16 ST Maxx fit in the stock spare location? Thanks!

...i have had a Cooper ST 255/85/16 in this position previously. note the ST is an older discontinued tire. i have the complication of an after market bumper which has a hitch tube stinking further forward than a stock bumper. i did beat on the spare tire frame claws as well. you might want to check on croms build as he places a Toyo MT 255/85/16 in there, and i think he moved the hoist bracket an inch or so rearward, and also does not have the same bumper complication that i do. i currently carry one spare on the swing gate.

I just ordered a set of the Kenda Klever RT in 35x10.5r17. I still need to figure out what wheels I want to run and chop my cab mounts but I couldn't pass up this deal. As much as I hate walmart they are selling these for $159.58 right now with no additional shipping charges.

I've read some good reviews about them and they do look good! I found a picture of a taco with them in 33x10.5r17

Will a 255/85/16 fit in the stock spare location without interfering with the diff?

It definitely will on a 5ft bed, seems like it doesn’t on a 6ft bed (but night with some bracket relocating)
