What size tires can I fit on stock suspension?

I started this post that way because, well, I'm going to ask the equivalent of that question for the bike world.

Looking for information on brands and models, really.

Looking to get into some light biking with the family. I am going to be searching for hybrid style bikes. I've come to this conclusion because I don't want a full on mountain bike nor a cruiser. From what I can tell, a hybrid is meddling in both worlds.

Not looking for full carbon frames, although hydraulic brakes seems like a nice upgrade in tech. My fat ass would also like something that works well.

I'm 6'2"-6'3". 240 lbs. Going to ride probably once a week, maybe more.

    Gimme the run down TW.

I figure with the hybrid, there would be some intel. Thanks for the info.

I have it and it does not clear. You can buy a drop hitch to make it work. I am about to at walmart because it does drive me bonkers not being able to use my tailgate when my hitch is on. It probably significantly drops my ground clearance but I can live with it.

I hate the idea of hybrid bikes. They are not good at anything. If you need a car/truck/suv comparison think of a crossover SUV. It can "technically" do anything but isn't fun at anything. Just get a mountain bike if you are going to hit the trails you will not be disappointed. I would never lie to a Bama fan...War Eagle!

Found a can of spray paint that was close enough and got me some almost color matched bottle cages!

Tis True! Gotta build a quiver! It doesn't matter whether it's bikes, skis, surfboards, etc. There is no such thing as a do everything and it still being fun. Can you run and hike in rubber boots? Yeah, but it's not much fun.

So, just buy a mountain bike, change the tires out from knobby trail tires, to a more pavement friendly tire with less resistance?

I would 100% have been on board. 1up racks are THE BEST and worth the steep price tag. I use one coupled with the single rack I made my self. Its a win/win and they’re bombproof. Plus, the step-up between both racks keeps the bikes safer from a rear impact from smaller vehicles. The 1up racks are heavy Mfers though (in a good way)

You could do that easily. There are a couple of XC style race tires that will do double duty as a road friendly tire.

Thats what a few here have done. Find a short travel XC or hardtail bike and go to gravel or roadie tires. Some of the CX bike tire options would be perfect for the job.

I think @honda50r did that on his "stupid bike"

Sometimes us bike nerds get 'paralysis by analysis'. Don't forget at the end of the day they're all just bicycles. Just enjoy the ride

True dat. We all fuss over gear ratios and stuff. That said, I can't remember a single bike ride that I said "damn, I SO wish I hadn't done that" in hindsight. During the ride though...once or twice.

Let's not forget the Women's Tour Divide leader won on a flat pedal single speed! And pedalled in logging boots it seems.

On a road trip to Bend, OR. Stopped at Targhee overnight and for a ride with wifey.
Targhee is so beautiful, absolutely stunning. But camping with Griz in the Tetons definitely made for some uneasy nights.
Also traded in the rack and box for a Softopper so we can sleep in the back.

    The amazing Tetons.

I simply want a bike that fits my frame, can hold up to treacherous state park paved roads and wont need to be adjusted, repaired, changed, fixed etc. every other time I ride it. Something that gets me out of the house, into nature. I suppose I could always drop $10,000 on a proper mountain bike later, should the pavement, grass and small gravel get to be too cumbersome.

    lol.
