What did I just break !?!

I'm removing the throttle body on my sons 2001 V6 3.4L when I broke this part, kindly see pic. What is this? What does it take to replace? Can I just screw in a new one?

If I was to guess.... engine breather tube. Snap another pic and zoom out a little. Where does that black hose go to?

 

PCV valve. No biggie.

 

Yup PCV valve... Probably needed to replace it anyway, just a few bucks... Just don't let the rubber gasket fall into the valve cover... Then you'll be doing some extra unscheduled maintenance!

 

While you’re replacing your PCV valve I would also change the grommet and potentially the hose. The PCV hose is about $12 from Toyota.

That looks like an AutoZone PCV valve. I bought one once. Mine snapped in half just like yours when I was installing it, right after I bought it. OEM is far superior than any brick & mortar offerings. X3 on a new grommet. That old one if old enough will crumble. And don't forget to lube both sides of the new grommet, it's a tight fit.

Yeah but now you've got new valve cover gaskets! Always a bright side

 

The rubber fell into mine last year when I was changing it. I took a shop vac to suck it up and also needle nose long pliers

 

small stuff like this, and any sensors, get OEM only
at the extra cost
if you plan on keeping the vehicle forever.

 

I should be so lucky. It took me about 1/2 hour to fish around with a very small wire, in very slow motion, locate the broken grommet, get it back underneath the hole to where I could see it, and then with a couple of prayers and a lot of patience, pull it out with needlenose pliers ...
